Charmete Boutique- Terrible Experience!
Ok, so today, my mom & I traversed to Brooklyn to Charmete Boutique. Over the phone we were both told on two separate occasions that they have a large selection of plus sized dresses. We had an appointment scheduled for 3:00PM.
We arrived at 2:50 and went in and said we had a 3:00 apt. As we entered, we noticed that the store smelt horrific, was terribly organized, and very cramped. We were told to 'go get some coffee and come back in a half hour to an hour, there's another girl here.' Ummm ok. So we left and were about to go to Dunkin Donuts, when we saw a man peeing in the street outside of it. Not the store's fault...but an interesting part of the oh so fun experience.
We wander around for awhile, and as we are walking a girl comes up to me and asks where Dunkin Donuts is. I tell her where to go. Mind you, it is now around 3:15. 25 minutes after we were told that a girl was already in the store trying on dresses.
Close to 3:30, we return to Charmete Boutique and lo and behold, who is trying on dresses but the girl who asked where Dunkin Donuts was! (It's a large landmark near the store.) And who CLEARLY was not in the store 25 minutes earlier.
We watched HER try on dresses until after 4:00PM. Finally, it was my turn. The fitting room was extremely small...no way two people could fit in it. So the person helping me gets the Sabelle (which I love) and holds it up to me because it won't fit. Ok fine. Additionally, the pedestal thingy that the bride stands on to see herself was squashed into a corner so you could barely see yourself + it was EXTREMELY slippery. I thought I was going to break my ankle.
Then she takes another Maggie Sottero corset back dress size 24 and wants to try it on me. She BARELY tried. I have tried on Maggie corset backs size 24 before and they absolutely fit me. THe corset cannot be completely tied, but almost all the way. I could even feel that it was going to fit, but the attendant told me that it would not and yanked it off, after seriously not trying at all to fit it. She didn't even undo the corset all the way.
Then they held up the Maggie Mary to me. Ok fine great wonderful. My mother said 'Don't you have plus sizes that she can try on?' The women said no. Now, TWICE over the phone we had been told there were plus sizes.
They ask which is my favorite, and I say Sabelle because I really do love Sabelle. And they were like ok, so we'll order it. And I said no, I'm not ordering today, I have other appointments. They kept pushing and pushing. So finally I said 'I have relatives coming from out of state to come dress shopping with me.' (Which isn't true but they wouldn't stop it) and one woman was like 'Oh...you don't want to take all those people with you...don't do it..'
Then I said I am not comfortable ordering something that I can't try on, and the other woman says 'Well you aren't going to find any Maggie samples that will fit you.' And I said 'Oh actually I have tried on Maggies at other stores.' (which is true...not that it really matters...i thought it was rude of her to say that)
By this point, the other woman had completely abandoned me and was helping someone else. And the 'Well you aren't going to find any...' woman then stopped talking to us.
They worked with me for a total of 15 minutes. I would absolutely not recommend going there. Just an awful experience.
