Cheat Sheet for Vows

We wrote our own vows and I know there is no way Iw ill be able to remember them up at that altar (I get realllyyyyy nervous standing and talking in front of a group of people) and I was wondering if its ok to bring alittle cheat sheet?
Anyone else do something like this? Or any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Cheat Sheet for Vows

I have been to 4 weddings where the bride and groom wrote their own vows and at all 4 at least one of them (bride or groom) read their vows. I am writing my own vows and also will be reading them. I see nothing wrong with it. There is going to be so much emotion and excitement that it would be easy to forget them and you don't want that to happen... Good Luck!

Sure you can bring a cheat sheet!

Even with traditional vows, you have the option of reading them rather than repeating after the officiant. I'd bring a card or sheet of paper. I'd be way too nervous / excited / emotional to remember every word without some help!

yep i've seen many cheat sheets. one time the groom had totally memorized everything but once he got up there, he got so nervous he needed to find the cheat sheet!

I don't think theres anything wrong with having them written out and reading from it. Everyone there will know how nervous you are and will totally understand.

DH & I wrote our own..and there was NO way i was going to try and memorize them...i printed mine on a piece of card stock and then folded it over twice..and tied a ribbon around it...so that when it was my turn...i untied it and read them...also so that no one could look at them before I said them...DH printed his on a piece of paper & stuck them in a book i had bought him called The Idiots Guide to Wedding Vows...it was cute when he referrence the book and then pulled out the sweetest vows.

Re: Cheat Sheet for Vows

We wrote our own vows and the officiant had them. He read them to us line by line to repeat, much as they would have done if we hadn’t written them ourselves. I didn’t want to hold a cheat sheet or be looking down at it instead of looking into my DH's eyes while I said them, so it was a good option for us! Everyone knew we had written them ourselves, even though the officiant was reading them for us to repeat. HTH!
