So FH and I have received a couple of checks in the mail for our wedding in the past few days. All the people who sent checks will not be attending the wedding. Do we have to wait till the wedding is over to cash the check, or can we cash them now. They also say to Mr, and Mrs. **** , I was wondering do I sign them with my new last name, or does he just sign them and deposit them into his checking account. One last question if we cash them do we send a thank you not now, or after the wedding when our photographer gives us our thank you notes?

We've already deposited ours. But ours have had my last name on them and we deposited them into our joint acct. I'm going to wait until after we get our thank you's back and send them one of those.

we cashed ours....even the ones made out to mr and mrs. i wrote thank you notes right away and will probably send another one with a picture when i do the rest of them

THIS IS THE PROPER THING TO DO! Definitely send them a thank you right away....then send a picture one after the wedding.

Personal checks have an expiration date of 6 months.. so you really don't want to wait. Plus personally I hate when I write out a check and the payee doesn't cash it.. then it remains as outstanding in my checkbook! So I would deposit or cash that right away. Definately write a Thank You out right away also.

i deposited those in our joint acct and had him sign them. the bank clerk also had me sign it with my current name.

i got one check from somebody not attending a couple months ago. It was just my name on it, so I deposited right away. I waited until my Shower though when I was already sending out Thank Yous to give them theirs. It was probably a couple weeks they had to wait. I don't think they minded

IMO since your wedding is only a couple of weeks away, i don't think it would be such a big deal to just hold them until after your married. however you should sent out a thank you asap so the sender knows you received the check.
