Check this out!

Looking for ideas:
1) how long before your wedding did you get your dress?
2) did you try a lot on? did you really get that: 'this is it' feeling?
3) any suggestions on stores?
THANKS SO MUCH!

Re: Check this out!

im getting married next Oct I bought my dress this past Aug

I didnt want to take my dress off.. every dress I tried on was beautiful and I loved them all, but the one I bought fit all my critria and felt good.

I went to the Macy's in Manhasset. They price match so that helped. Went online and found my dress for $600 less so they gave it to me for $400 less than stated...

ETA: I tried 10 or so dresses on at the Wedding Center in Commack (Josephine was the only sane one there) then I tried to see dresses at Bridal Reflections but they treated me like poor man's trash so I skipped my appt. I went to David's Bridal but they had horrible service and basically pointed to the size 10 area and said 'pick one' so I tried none on and then went to Macy's where I tried on 3 dresses. The Last one being the one.

All this stuff I did solo.

Re: Check this out!

I bought my dress the end of September for my June wedding. I tried on about 50 dresses before finding the one (at 4 different shops)

The feeling I had when I had the dress on was that I didnt want to take it off (I didnt for awhile, I probably was walking around the store with it on for over a half hour ) that to me was THE feeling I was lookign for plus I when I had the dress on, I was totally daydreaming about my wedding and I saw myself in that dress, that didnt happen with the others.

Good Luck, its fun!

Re: Check this out!

I ordered my dress last month and am getting married in September. (I told them the date is in July, just to be sure it arrives in time.)

I went to Kleinfeld and had a great experience. I flew in from out of state specifically to go there and did not have time to shop around too much. But it all worked out.

I tried on about 8 dresses. I'm probably the weird one here, but I did not know immediately that it was 'the one'. (My mom thinks differently - she was there and said my face completely changed when I put it on, but I don't remember loving it instantly.) Only after I looked at it with the veil and everything did I know.

And I didn't want to take it off. I want it right now, in my closet, so I can take it out and wear it whenever I want...I miss my dress!

Good luck! Dress shopping is so much fun!!

Re: Check this out!

I am getting married next Sept and I ordered my gown in April. They told me that it will take about 6-9 months to come in.

I tried on about 6 dresses but the 3 dress I knew was the one. After I tried on the 6th dress, I tried on the 3rd dress again and I just knew that that dress was the one that I wanted.

I ordered my gown and BM dresses from Valentina's in Brooklyn. If the total of your gown is over $1000, you get a free headpiece, veil, slip and alternations. Each BM, gets a 10% discount off the ticket price and free alternations. If they decide to get their alternations done someplace else, then they get a 20% discount off the ticket price.

Re: Check this out!

I got married in January and bought my dress in June of 2002. I went to 2 shops and tried on about 7 dresses before I picked.

I didn't get an OH MY GOD feeling- but my mom did- she was like- that's it that's it- so I bought it.

and when I went back for my fitting I was like, 'holy cow she was right'

Re: Check this out!

I bought my dress this past September. I think it is scheduled to come in sometime in January. I must have tried on at least 10 dresses before i decided. I definitely got the feeling that it was 'the' dress for me. As for stores well i didn't go the usual way. I purchased mine from the Bridal Building in NYC. It is not like going to Bridal Reflections where everything is so plush and so but the women at the place i went were very helpful and the prices were great.

Re: Check this out!

I looked at dresses in Sept and I am getting married in Nov of 2004.
I only looked at one place and found 'the one' at that place.
If you do a search you can find tons of suggestions from our wonderful ladies here at LIW.
