Checking email with a PDA

Does anyone do this? I want to be able to check my email on the LIRR but am not sure

A. if its even possible

and

B. what I need to do it (a wireless provider and the PDA - anything else?)

Either get a Blackberry...

Or get a wireless aircard to plug into your PDA and use it to connect to the internet and get your email.

Wireless aircard plans are not cheap though. Blackberry is the best way to go if you just want email.

It also depends on what type of email you are checking? work? hotmail? aol?

Blackberry only works with certain systems... usually work systems.

I mostly want to check work email. Do I need to pay a lot for the wireless access?

You will have to check with your company as well. Just because the device checks email doesn't mean your work's email is setup to work with it. My company is not...and at this time we don't really have the means for people to check their email externally...

With a regular PDA it is possible to check your email if your company bought the pricey upgrade or if you are near a wireless connection.

You are going to have to talk to your company then. If they have a way for you to check mail using the web outside the company... then all you need to have to do is buy a PDA and buy a wireless aircard and pay for that service.

Its not cheap... and its painfully slow and difficult to use.

Get your job to set up Blackberry. Thats the way to go. I have 60 blackberries running around at my job. I have one as well... they are kickass. I get my email in realtime and can send emails from it... and the person receiving it has no clue I am on the road or at my desk.

We can check our email through some web site they set up, or they said they will give me my own IP address. Does that mean good things or bad things?

Is Blackberry slow?
