Children at the reception

Children at the reception

We have decided not to have children at our wedding. Both FI and I thought about it, even at 1/2 price it still comes out to alot of money plus I just don't see the need for children to be here JMO. FI has 2 little cousins (9 & 7) his aunt when we first got engaged assumed they were the flowergirls, asking us if they were in the wedding I in a very nice way just laughed and said 'oh we didnt pick our BP yet' I was in total shock that someone would even say that!!

I feel your pain. My FH told his parents that we are not having children at the wedding, and less than a week later one of his cousins tells us that they have no one to watch their 3 year old daughter. They claim that if thier daughter can't come then they can't come.

The wedding is 5 months away, and we are getting married on a Saturday afternoon. Do you mean to tell me that in 5 months they can't find someone to watch their daughter for 5 hours on a Saturday afternoon!!!!!

Sorry to rant on your thread.

Maybe that there are children on both sides of the wedding and if you invited one you would have to invite all of them and that its a huge expense...people need to understand!

We aren't having children at ours and I have a feeling someone in my family is just going to bring them anyway

BTW...It has also been said to me that I rent a room at a hotel or hire someone to be ina room with the kiddies during our reception To which I say NO WAY! Its their responsiblity to find someone to watch their child or children that night!

Oh dont worry! Well, his aunt told him that she had no one to watch them the day of the shower so my mom said it's on a Sunday and their father is home. His aunt is just too cheap to pay for a babysitter thats what it all comes down b/c if you want to find someone you can you cant tell me that they dont go anywhere ever w/out their kids i find that hard to believe.

We told them this in the beg when it first came up. I said i have alot of little kids on my side and if you invite one you have to invite them all! They didnt see to get it. His aunt told us we shouldn't be spending so much money on other stuff then if we have to watch who we are inviting. UH i was so annoyed how dare she!

1 bumping into all my guests
2 annoying their parents
and ...3 just running around and being bored ... anyway i dont want my guests to leave early 'cause the kids are tied ... in my opinion weddings are no place for kids
... dont get me wrong i have my own dilemma too my nephew is 4 and he is the ring bearer.. what do i tell my brother to get someone to pick him up after the reception ... i cant do that ... i'm stuck too... it is stil an issue in my house

Both of my sons (4 and 3 months) and my niece (3) are in the BP, I'm having a co-worker babysit after the ceremony, mostly because the reception would run too late for them to be there. I have also asked that people not bring thier childern to the reception, but the ceremony is fine.

Be prepared though for people who bring thier kids, just because you told them not to. My Aunt didn't want any kids at her wedding besides those in the BP, but my other Aunt bought her 10 month old niece who cried through the whole ceremony. That was almost 9 years ago, and my Aunts still don't speak.

Re: Children at the reception

Girls...I feel all of your pain. I have had 2 people already bring up their children to us saying they have no one to watch them....and our wedding isn't until late November. Hello - deal with it! I think it is so incredibly rude for people to involve the bride and groom with their childcare issues for the day....like the bride and groom don't have enough to worry and stress out about. I was so annoyed - one was my FH's best friend...and the other is my FH's brother....speaking about his UNBORN CHILDREN....they are due with twins in June. Sorry but a wedding is not the place for newborns! We want my FH's brother and his wife to enjoy themselves - he is in the BP too. We're sort of annoyed they even asked this - don't they want to have fun at our wedding? Honestly if you knew them you would understand when I say that they want to show off their twins (first children...first grandchildren for my FIL's) to the world at our wedding. Sorry but find another place to do it - not at my wedding! He keeps telling us 'Sorry we totally stole your thunder by getting prego with twins - no one really even talks about your wedding anymore - everyone just wants to talk about the babies'....RUDE

Sorry to rant on your thread too - just had to share!

I completely agree, I dont think that a wedding is a place for children. There is no reason for them to be running all around the place, it's an adult party. I think it's very rude for people to just invite their children or even ask the bride & groom..

You just have to stick to your guns. When people say if the kids can't come they won't make it, the only response is 'I'm so sorry you won't be available to witness our special day'.

No discussion, no bargaining, nothing.

My grandmother has said, if my aunt comes she won't come. I told my grandmother to stay home. I don't care that they haven't spoken in 30 years, and she can't stand to be in the same room with her. I am NOT telling my aunt to stay home so my grandmother can be there. I'm the last granddaughter to get married. If she can't put aside a family feud for 5 hours, so be it. Besides, it will save my mother the $$ on paying for her airfare, and the aggravation of getting caught in the middle.

Don't weddings just bring out the best in people...I don't know why anyone would put a bride in the middle like that

Re: Children at the reception

I understand- I personally am having children at my shower and wedding, but that's because they are my nephews and neices and we are extremely close.

BUT- you have decided no kids, and they should respect your decision. they are his cousins kids for crying out loud!

no is no, and it sounds like something my family would do...and I say it's ok to be a little stern about it.

Been there, done that. It's your wedding and your choice about who can attend. I have told family members the same as the other poster when they say they won't be able to attend w/o their kids, without their flavor of the week girlfriend, without an ex girlfriend who just wants to attend.......etc.'So sorry you will not be able to attend. You will be missed'

Re: Children at the reception

we're not having any kids at ours either.

what is making it easier on us is that my cousin is getting married a month and half b4 us and he's not having any kids at his either (so the precedent is set w/ our family)

You wonder why people wouldn't want to go out for ONE NIGHT without their kids anyway. I know I would need a break

NO CHILDREN AT MY WEDDING, AND IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT, THEN DON'T COME.
I SAID THOSE SAME WORDS TODAY TO ONE OF MY FH'S NEICE.
