children at the reception?....kinda long

children at the reception?....kinda long

We would like to have my nieces and nephews in the wedding and at the reception. My brother has three boys that will be 10, 9 and 7 at the time of the wedding. My sister has two kids 6 and 4 1/2 at time of wedding.
I want to invite my brother’s children because they are older and well behaved. My sister’s kids can be demanding of their mother’s time, and tend to have tantrums when told no about anything. Their mother is my maid of honor and I want her to be able to relax and have fun without having to worry about taking care of the kids. Plus selfishly I want her to be with me throughout the day and not have to go off every two minutes to take care of her kids. She said someone can come and watch them while at the ceremony. That is fine with me, but they tend to want mommy to do things for them and they cry and make a fuss whenever someone else attempts to do anything for them. They are very important people in my life and I would love them to be there but I am nervous. Is it rude to invite some kids and not the others? Any advise?

This is a hard subject. My opinion would be that it would be better to invite all or none. We had the same thing, I wanted all the kids at the reception, but we also want the parents to have a good time. We're actually getting married at the same place! Here's what we came up with. At the Estate there is the Bridal Suite. We're having the older kids sit in the dinning room, but for the younger kids we're having a table set up in the Bridal Suite right after cocktail hour. We're bringing in a TV and DVD player and bringing all sorts of games and stuff. We're also providing babysitters. So this way the parents don't have to think about finding a babysitter, and the kids can still enjoy the reception. Also, with the Inn being right there, we may get a room to put the kids to bed when it gets late. Hope this helps some!!!

I think it is all or none as well... I am in the estate too and we talked to them about keeping a table or two in the cocktail hour room set up so that they can entertain themselves in there...and we were thinking of bringing a tv as well...I think the kids will be fine because they will be excited to dance and what not, but just in case they get tired,,,they can head to the bridal suite

I think its ok to invite some kids and not others. We are not having any children below the age of ten at the wedding. When I was a kid, I never went to a wedding with my parents. They always got a babysitter for the night. I dont think its too much to expect some one to get a babysitter if invited to a formal event like a wedding. If you want , you could pay for a babysitter for the kids to stay home. If they are at the reception, even in another room, your sister may feel like she has to constantly check up on them.

I think some and not all is okay in general. Like -- I think you could get away with only inviting your sibling's kids and no others. But, I don't know how you could get away with inviting some of your nieces/nephews and not all! Sorry! Good luck!

I agree. I guess you could tell everyone that the cut off is 7 but your sisters feelings might be hurt. You might want to talk to her and see how she feels about having her kids at the wedding. She might not want to have them there either.

We're having our cut off at 16. If they aren't going to be 16 by our wedding, we're not inviting them. This means we're spliting some families but it's just the way it has to be.

Talk to your sister, she may prefer for her children not to be there. My brother and SIL did. They are both in the BP and knew their chidren would be too demanding of their time.

All or none...especially since it's siblings....if you were talking about your brother's kids and your second cousins, that MIGHT be different....I like the tv/dvd idea...that's really a great idea!!!
