Children at the Wedding

Children at the Wedding

Okay, here is my dilemma . . .

I have having my beautiful nieces (3 of them) and my nephew as my flower girls and ring bearer. My sisters are also both in my wedding party. We are all VERY close and very excited about the wedding. However, I do want my sisters and brothers-in-law to have a good time at the reception without worrying about taking care of the kids. Would it be bad to have the kids at the CH only, then have a babysitter (family friend) some pick them up and take them for the night? That way, the kids still get to be part of the wedding and be around for the CH, but once the reception starts, absolutly no children will be around. Need some advice. Part of me wants them to be there for the party, but part of me wants my sisters to have a good night out without having to worry about all the kids......

p.s. - no other 'children' under 18 are invited to the wedding.

I think that your idea is perfect. They get to be in the ceremony and then they get to see some of the party which I'm sure they will love, espescially as the only kids it will make them feel like they got to be part of the grown up party. And by the time thats over they will probably be getting antsy anyway so they go with the sitter and get to have a fun night and your sisters get to stay at the wedding and have a great time without worriying about keeping them out of trouble.

my fsil had an 'adult reception' however her neices and nephews were in the bp (2 fg 3 rb) i think at most, 2 of them were at the ch. they were around for enough pictures and then taken to a sitter. my fbil and his wife had a great time.

We're doing the same thing... I have a niece and two nephews in the wedding and no other kids invited. The wedding is a late night wedding (starts at 8:30 PM). We didn't want any kids b/c we want adults to enjoy themselves (and act like kids... LOL). We're getting a babysitter and after CH the babysitter will take them back to the hotel to sleep. She's been their babysitter for a while and older.

I think that sounds like a great idea. When I was 16-17 years old, my friend and I babysat during a wedding in a hotel room, it was a great time.

I am in a very similar situation. I wasn't sure what to do either. I ended up speaking to my brother & sister-in-law as well as my cousin (all their kids are in the wedding). I have ultimately left it up to them to decide. I would suggest speaking to your sisters to see how they feel about it.

Your idea is great. Speak to them to see what their preferences are.

I would speak to your sisters first to see their take on it - I think you're doing a great thing by offering them the service, but they may not feel comfortable or may want their children there.

that sounds like a great idea but I think it should be left up to your sisters and brothers-in-law and what they feel more comfortable doing. I think your wedding will be great either way..kids or no kids.

What about if you have a babysitter at the wedding and then when the kids get tired she or he can take them back to the hotel or wherever they are staying? Did you ask the parents what they want to do? They may be able to have a great time partying with the kids there. See what they think and tell them your ideas. This may be something you really don't need to be worrying about. You have enough going on!!

I was thinking about doing the same thing for my flower girls. I think it's a great idea.

I am worried about this similar situation also, though not so worried about the young ones. My FH and I are unsure about whether or not to make it a no kids wedding. We are both the oldest cousin on our respective sides, and we are pretty close with our cousins, so in a way it would be saying to them (11 of them ranging in ages from 3 to 17) 'yes we love you and you are important to us, but you can't come to the party'.. we are still undecided.

i was considering what to do with my flower girl and ringbearers after the ceremony as well. i guess i'm leaving it up to their parents. it's really their parents' problem. if they choose to have them at the reception, i would not object to it. if they want to pay for a babysitter, they can do that as well. i would be agreable to either suggestion.

My neice and nephew are in my wedding too, but I am going to leave it up to my sister regarding how she wants to handle it. Her in-laws will be there, so they will probably end up taking them home early, but not at any specific time. FH also has two cousins coming that are 9 & 10, but that is it for kids. Their parents like to party, so I'm sure they will figure something out. Just go with the flow, they're not your responsibility, so let someone else worry about it for a change.

I think that is a good idea but just ask your family if that's good for them. Sometimes parents don't want the kids with a sitter. Sometimes they do.

My friend had 25 relatives, who said they were coming, cancel after they got an invitation that said adults only reception on it.

I'm so glad you brought this up! I was talking to my sister about this a few times. My nephew is going to be the RB, and I originally wanted him at the whole reception. Then she said that she thought it would be too much for him (b/c he'll only be 2yrs and 4months old) and the reception ends at 12am and she thought it would be WAY too late for him. I said he could always nap in the stroller or in the bridal suite or something. Then I told her to have her friends (the sitters) pick him up after the 'main entrance' and stuff and she complained b/c our RH 'is too far'.
Then the more she thought about it....now she says she WANTS him there b/c she thinks it would be great to see him dance around and he would have a great time.
So basically I'm leaving it up to them b/c it's true.....they're the ones that will have to worry about him most the night!
As much as I love my nephew and I'd always do ANYTHING for him...I know FH and I are going to be way too tied up and in lah-lah land!!

Ask their parents first, but I think it's a great idea. I've also seen little kids in weddings only go to the church, too, as their parents preferred to have them go home with their grandparents (on the other side) or something after the church.
