Children at the wedding...

Children at the wedding...

I know this is always a touchy subject... and it's not that I have anything against children I just don't think that kids, especially little ones have a good time at weddings... We also figured out that if everyone bring their kids what it would cost to feed them and it's a decent chunk of change.

FH and I were talking about it and we were thinking of inviting people without their kids with the exception of the kids in the wedding and the kid of his friends who are out in Colorado. They don't have any family out there so they really have no one to leave their son with.

Even though all of his people are from OOT the rest of them live near family who they could leave their kids with.

Is it wrong to invite OOT guests without their kids? I know it's ok have just the kids in the BP there but what about that one other couple? Do you think people will raise hell?

We are not inviting any children, and that includes many OOT guests with children. What we ARE doing is if child care is the only thing holding someone back from coming, we will arrange for a babysitter to watch the children at the hotel while the parents come to the wedding. There will be one child at our wedding, but that is our flower girl (my FSD...so obviously she's coming either way haha).

I think that having the kids in the BP is fine, but if you are inviting the people from colorado maybe it'd be better to try and set up a babysitter for them instead of having them bring the kids and people flipping out.

No children here, except the 3 in the BP.

OOT'ers can either find someone to watch their kids, or they don't have to come. Don't get me wrong, I love kids....I work with them. But I don't want the parents to have to worry about their children behaving and running around.

I had a lot of OOT and most of them had kids. We did not invite any kids except for our FG. Some came and left their kids with family and I did have a few who could not come without their kids. I understood their situation and they understood that their kids were not invited.

There aren't any small kids in the family. The youngest in the family will be 12 by the time I get married, so we didn't say no to the kids. I come from a big family so at first I agree to no children, but when they are coming from out of state e.g. GA, I wasn't going to say no because they really trying to be there for me. I couldn't tell a family member no to their kids if they were coming from other country, because that's a lot on money to take a trip for my day. I just think if the child is over 10 they can come. Plus most eat like adult

We're NOT having kids. My FH has a ton of nieces, nephews, and cousins who are all very young. We are just doing 18 and over. We've already heard some comments about it, but I really don't think it's a place for kids. I'm going to put 'adult reception' on my invitations as well.

We aren't having any kids at the reception even the ring bearers and flower girl are going home after the church. Its too expensive with kids and the way I see it is that the parents have enough advanced notice to find babysitters.

We aren't inviting any other than FH's nieces and nephews. He has 3 ages 7-11 and then a 2yr old and a 4 yr old...

I think that is fine

We have big families so we are going to end up having kids at the wedding but not many of them are too young... Off the top of my head, its only like 5 kids who are under 7 and the rest are 10+ so they're fine

If you invite only 1 family with kids then other ppl might think, oh why werent my kids invited... but i dont know, maybe you could arrange for some sort of babysitting at the hotel where your guests are staying so OOT guests can leave their kids there??

I like the babysitting idea at the hotel... originally I was going to arrange for it in the room off of my bridal suite but I could just see that being a disaster so we thought no kids would just be better. BUt the hotel idea is good... that way of people want to bring their kids from OOT they can leave them with the sitter at the hotel... away from the wedding.

Thanks ladies.

i wont invite the children its a Sat night wedding but if something comes up and someone needs to bring their child I will let them. I dont really think most people would bring their children who have them anyway. I can careless I was always brought to weddings at a certain age so I dont see the big deal over it.

I think I will have like 3 kids at the wedding. most of who is invited have babies, so I hope they realize not to bring them. I know for sure that I wont be able to tell the couple not to bring their 3 girls, that will put me in a very b!tchy light with the rest of the family.
but I guess when it comes out to be more children than what I expect at my wedding, def arrange like Illana said, for a babysitter. as long as they understand why ur doing this and they dont feel hurt by it.
I think its all nice and well to say to urself that its my wedding and this is how I want it, but at the same these are our families and friends and we dont want to alienate them over this. JMO.
so u can provide in ur invitations info for the parents among ur OOT's about the babysitting at the hotel, as I remember from when I worked at a hotel there is always a babysitting service offered, or they find someone to do that out of their staff if they dont have a set staff member that does that.

We are inviting kids. It won't end up being too many probably around 12, so they can have a table to themselves.

I wouldn't love it if someone brought their newborn though - but honestly, I don't have any relatives or friends who are crazy enough to do that. I think the youngest kid there will be around 5.

I don't want kids at the wedding...including OOT guests. They'll have to find someone to watch the kids, or just dont come. Most people assume that weddings are adult only affairs, and expect to not have their kids invited.

We're inviting some kids, but not others. Meaning we're inviting children in the family, and children of very close family friends. However, we are not inviting children of parents' coworkers, former teachers, etc. for the fact that it was just too many people. We had to draw the line somewhere. I'd say we're probably inviting about 50 people under 18. The OOTers will just have to find someone to watch those kids for the night.

well we are having kids...
but we are still limiting them to close family... plus we have 1 FG and 3 RB... so that's 4 right there...

It's crazy b/c we both come from a big fam and about 10 kids between the two of us... (but with the exception of 2, all are over 5yrs)

so honestly that is all that is invited...

It's bad b/c one of my BM's daughter is my god child... but by the time we are married she's only going to be a 1 yr old... and I honestly don't want her to come...
she's a bit of a whiney baby and very clingy to her mom and I can't be having no crying kids at my wedding... So she may be offended but I'm going to have to break the news to her...

If i had my choice I wouldn't have a single child coming to my wedding but since my brothers and sister continue to reproduce... i have to...
