Has anyone had children from a previous relationship in thier wedding??? Did you do a stepparent ceremony?? What did you do??
I am so confused and there is so little time and nothing is accomplished!!!

Re: Children ceremony??
One of my co-workers had an extra ceremony - he and his wife both had children from a previous marriage and they all evchanged rings as a symbol of the families joining.
My sister's X-husband did the same thing when he remarried, my nephews hate the rings, they feel uncomfortable wearing them and only wear them when they are with their father.
FH has a son and we will not be doing an additional ceremony, when his mother married she didn't do it either.

Re: Children ceremony??
When my mother married my stepfather, they incorporated myself and my two stepsisters by having us say our 'I do's' to the marriage. It was really cute b/c we were each asked by the minister whether or not we were in agreement with the marriage and of course we all said I do.

i JUST went to a wedding last weeked and the groom did the cutest thing! The brides little guy was in the wedding(rb) and immediately following the B&G's ring ceremony, the pastors announced 'now jamal has a special ring presentation' and called up the his future stepchild.......he then got down on one knee with a ring for him and promised to not only love & take care of his 'mommy' but that he also promises to love & take care of him like he was his own. It was the SWEETEST thing EVER. there seriously was not a dry eye in the house.

Re: Children ceremony??
We had 2 children together before we got married.. so they aren't step children - but we did do a special little something to acknowledge ourselves as a family of 4 rather than a family of 2.
My sons walked me down the aisle and 'gave me' to Rob. We also did a 'hand ceremony'. We all joined hands and the celebrant said a little prayer of family that went like this:
Boys please hold Mommy and Daddy's hands so that you may see the gift you are to them.
Friends and Family – please reach out and take the hands of the persons next to you.
These are the hands of your family, strong and vibrant with love that are holding yours on your wedding day. These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you all build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your innermost secrets and dreams.
Boys, these are the hands of your mother and father These are the hands that will comfort you in illness and wipe tears of sorrow and joy from your eyes. These are the hands that will tenderly lift your chin to look into each your eyes and are filled completely with their overwhelming love for you
Friends, witness how the love that we have connects each of us as tangibly as your hands are connecting you at this very moment.
If you allow your hands to support this family When they struggle and congratulate them when they achieve their dreams Then that love will always return to you.
It was great.

Re: Children ceremony??
We have two children of our own and I have a son from a previous relationship. We are having them be part of the ceremony as our ringbearers, but are not doing a special ceremony for them.
we are doing a ceremony that Rev. April@ Church of Ancient Ways helped us to create. I have 2 from a past marriage-he has one from a past relationship. They are getting the family medallion necklaces and they are called up in the ceremony. We incorporated them from the beginning. We are paying for wedd. ourselves so we put the kids on the invites, etc. It really is a day for us all to become the family that we've been living by since we moved in together. We did have a talk with each about how they have 2 families now-1 with us and 1 with their dad/mom respectively. They are all excited about it b/c they feel like its their day too. Good Luck!

I wanted a candle too but I was nervous about the wind we are outdoors too! We are using a sand thing, where we each have different color sand and pour them together to symbolize the blending of our family! I thought it was cute!

I am hoping to use Rev. April too! She is getting back to me on the date...seems so sweet! We are paying ourselves too and included the children on the invites as well! My FH has been the only father they've know since they are 2 and we've lived together since then too!

Re: Children ceremony??
i'm glad you posted this i was wondering how to recognize FH's daughter in the ceremony, I was really concerned b/c her mother is also invited and how to do include this with out making her feel as though i'm trying to 'take over'.
Thanks for the ideas!
