Ok so I'm scoping out China patterns to register for.
China is one of the only things that I need because FH and I already have everything since we've both been on our own forever.
Here's my issue: my top 3 patterns that I was deciding between:
Waterford Wedgewood Royal Doulton
Now what? I don't know if I should register for the pattern anyway and think that just because they're going into bankruptcy, it'll all be fine or do I do a switcharoo and try to find a Lenox pattern I like?
This economy B L O W S!!!!!!!!!!!
Any advice? Am I nuts to register for china made by a company that may not exist any more?

Re: China Question
Didn't Lenox file too though?
I think we're all SOL. I would register for the one you like best, regardless of company, and have a backup pattern in case. Worst case scenario, cross the bridge when you come to it.

Re: China Question
You know - I think Lenox did file. Oh man!!
Worse comes to worse, FH and I can always eat our holiday dinners off the good paper plates I guess!
I guess I'll take the chance and register for the pattern I like best and then if I'm unable to complete the set, I'll sell them to replacements.com or something....
I REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE THIS ECONOMY!!!!!!

Re: China Question
It will be fine. No one is going to let them fold. They didn't file for bankruptcy, they filed for bankruptcy protection, that means they can try to work things out and reorganize. It doesn't mean they won't pull patterns, but if you go with the classics your probably safe. Besides any company can pull a pattern at any time.
If you do register and get your patterns, and then lets say years from now you want to replace it but the pattern (or company) is long gone, here is your rescue.
They have hundreds of retired patterns. I inherited my china and I was able to replace a broken tray without a problem.

Thank you - I feel so much better now.

Re: China Question
They all filed for bankruptcy protection and they are all over 100 years old. I say register for whatever you like, they aren't going anywhere.

Lenox filed too and they are just fine. Don't sweat it. I too have Wedgewood plates and I am keeping them. They will still be around.

Re: China Question
Filing for bankruptcy doesn't mean they are going out of business. it just means they need to be financially restructured. Register for what you love. We chose a Vera Wang that we are in L-O-V-E with!

Re: China Question
someone will buy waterford/wedgewood. the names are timeless, and i wouldn't be surprised if lenox bought them out to eliminate the competition. i'd try to choose a popular pattern if you go with them because there is a risk of thinning out poor sellers (just like the car companies are considering) by the new owners. i have a wedgewood pattern--india, which is a big seller, so much so that they keep it in stock at BBB--and i'm not that worried. talk it over with the ladies in the fine china dept and see what they think.
