Choosing a BM Dress - ?

Hi ladies!

A question - how did you go about choosing a bridesmaid dress? I'm assuming that the wedding gown should be taken into account, right? Should the fabrics of the wedding gown and bm dresses match? What about the styles? My gown is very simple - silk satin, strapless, sweep train, with a 1 inch band of pearl and crystal detail circling the dropped waist. Does a simple gown need simple bm dresses? (I'm thinking yes.) Help!

my dress is kind of flashy..so i told my girls whatever they wanted..it just had to be a certain color..then i let them pick out whatever they wanted...but i would think that if yoru gown is simple, then the BM dresses should be rather simple also..I went to a wedding once where the bride had a very simple dress, very plain and the Bms had vera wang crazy dresess..it looked like they were trying to outdo the bride..but that is just my opinion. I dont think the materials have to match either. Imay be wrong..its just what I think

I would think the Bm's dress should reflect the style of your dress and the formality of your wedding. My BM's went dress shopping without me, and the sales people always asked what my dress looked like, day, time and location of the wedding.
If your dress is simple, they might look out of place in something elaborate and flashy.
