CHOPPY UPDATE--EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER!!

So my dog went into surgery this morning. We were told that he had a large tumor in the area around his kidney and they wanted to perform surgery to see if they could 'save' him.

Fast forward to today: Around 11am they call my mom to tell her that they just opened him up and that from what they see, the tumor is in the kidney sac and that it looks about the size of a grapefruit and that she should start thinking about 'what she wants to do' (aka, put him to sleep)

I leave work immediately because my parents are hysterical. This dog is like their 4th child! At about 2pm we still have not heard back from the DR, so I call and they tell me he is STILL performing surgery on choppy, which I thought was weird.

He calls us after half an hour to tell us his findings. BASICALLY, Choppy did NOT have a tumor at all, but his kidney was bleeding! There was so much blood that it had congealed and formed a 'tumor-like' mass so they removed the diseased kidney and saw no other tumors in the area. He said that if he can live off of the one kidney, he has a good shot at making it!!

He is in recovery now and it's still VERY touch and go--he might make it, he might not, but we feel relieved that we didn't put him down right away.

I feel so stupid though because my mom called me at work to tell me we had to put him down and I LOST IT..and then I had to tell my asst principal that I had to leave because I was putting my dog down AND NOW I have to go back and say...'just kidding' lol

Ha ha ha! I am sure she will understand ththough. And it's nice of you to go back to work!

I'm glad that there's a positive side.. and I truely hope the positive outcome prevails!

Seriously Mary!!! I mean, that was a real emotional rollercoaster they put us on!

He's awake from surgery now, but still a little groggy. If he can eat and get up tomorrow, that will be a good sign.

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH ladies--You have no idea how great it is to have you guys giving Choppy all this support. Thank you!
