We have decided because of all the drama that has gone on with our families recently and over the last couple of years, that we are going to join a Catholic church down here in NC and have our baby's Christening here. We're tired of going out of our way for everyone else. We are going to think of ourselves for once. The baby too of course! If no one wants to come down here for it, oh well! We're still sending invites, but it's up to them. We still can't come up with anyone to be the God parents though.

Re: Christening...
I think that's a good idea...
We aren't exactly that far away from our families, but we have always accomodated everyone else. Instead of having the christening and dinner in Long Island, we're having it in the Bronx (near us).
Have you thought about asking the best man and maid of honor or your wedding to be the god parents? That's what we did.

Re: Christening...
Great attitude and it's about time you started thinking about 'your family' Brian and I are going through the same thing and when it comes to holidays we have this attitude like 'this is what we are doing and you are more than welcome to join us' we used to run for everyone else too.
It's amazing how it takes a baby to change your life especially knowing that the change shouldn't taken place years ago!!

Re: Christening...
I think that is a smart move. You want to make sure both sides of your family understand that your new immediate family is your DH and child. I think that is very important to establish those boundaries early on.
If we have a child while we still live in Texas, the Christening will definately be here. This is where we live, where our lives are, and where our new family will begin.

Good for you Melissa! We are doing the *same* exact thing! I have to call this week about joining the church and the Pre-Baptismal class.
