Hey- One of my BM's is having her daughters christening late Sunday afternoon(starts at 5:30) at Jericho Terrace. What do you think is a good amount to give her. i don't think I've ever been to a christening at a reception hall. I was thinking around 200-250?

get a savings bond. i think a $250.00 face value bond will only cost you $125.00. my mom does this for all christenings & communions. my parents used to have a hall for hire business & she used to see people paying for the kids party using the kids gifts, so she started giving bonds so that the money really does go to the kid in the end.

$200 for a christening is a lot, I think. I mean, if you want to be generous, and if she's really close, go right ahead! But you don't need to give more just because it's at a reception hall. They chose to have it there, and just like a wedding, you do not need to 'cover your plate.' Esp. in this instance, all the $ is going to the baby I would hope.
I usually give $50 gifts for a christening, no matter where the party is held. I think for my sister's baby, I gave a total of $100 in gifts.

When I go to a christening at a restaurant I usually give $100, but she's having a cocktail hour and everything at JT. Does anyone know how much JT is a plate for a sunday afternoon?

FYI- Parents can still cash those savings bonds

Yea its sad. I worked in a bank and I would always see parents cashing them in way before the bond matured. Most of these parents had no other resort but to cash them since they were strapped for cash.

I usually give $100 for christenings but if they are close family, I give more.
