I figured I'd ask the parents this one.....what is a nice gift for my DH's cousin's first baby's christening? I used to always give savings bonds, but they take SO long to mature, I'm not sure it's worth it.
What other gifts would be appropriate? Is there something nice you received that stands out in your mind?
Thanks

Re: Christening gift?
I think a personalized ID bracelet is nice, or earrings, or a baby ring. If not jewelry, then money. those are the 2 options that I go with, or a combo of both, depending on how much i spend on jewelry, i might also give money. have fun !

I always give a check or cash. I agree w/ the bonds taking forever to mature!

Re: Christening gift?
Some people gave us gifts for Luke's christening but other than the cross from his godmother, none of them were real keepsake items. I give money. EE Bonds mature in 17 years. Perfect for babies. They continue to earn interest for even longer if you keep them. And there are tax advantages if used for education. Plus the giver can actually give a bigger gift that way. If someone is putting my $100 away till the baby goes to college, I'd rather see them have $200 at that time. Lots of parents invest the child money to yield a higher rate of return but alot don't so this way it's an automatic thing.

I think $$$$ is a good gift, so they can put it into the child's account if they have one set up.
I got a savings bond from my grandmother every year for my birthday and christmas...I cashed them in for my wedding and my mom said that's exactly what my grandmother would have wanted them to be for (my grandmother didn't think girls went to college - lol - old school)
so I like the savings bond route.

Re: Christening gift?
We got several savings bonds for Paul, which we very much appreciated. Like Liz said, they mature in 17 years.
We also had a couple of gifts of stock - just a couple of shares in really stable companies - like Disney, as an example. Of course, a couple of shares doesn't really pay dividends, but it's the thought that counts!

Re: Christening gift?
Disney has a really cute stock certificate. I don't know what the per share price is these days but if you get the certificate it has the Dinsey characters all over it. My niece got one as a gift - I think it was only a few shares but they gave her the cert. framed.
