Re: CHRISTENING GIFT FOR FIRST BABY--help-- what do I give
I've looked into One Share in the past. The Disney stock is a very cute idea, but expensive. The stock is only at $17 (right now, the highest its been in the last year is 25), but you pay $100 for one share (and framing). You can get 5x more shares for that kind of money.
Thats why I've never done it. Its more about the presentation than the value of the gift. Though I guess if you're going for a keepsake or something to display, its still good. If you're going for value (to you or the child) its not.

I usually give a savings bond. The amount depends on the relationship and where it's being held. If it's like a mini-wedding (like the big Greek one Betty is going to, the Italians usually do the same thing), then a bit more (a $200 bond) or if it's at a smaller restaurant, then maybe a $100 bond. Again, depending on the relationship to the parents!Betty, you should have fun at the Sand Castle -- that was where my wedding was!!! The food was really good, not that I would know since I really didn't EAT anything!!
Let me know how you liked it!

For me it depends on the family's situation. If I know things are really tight for a family I'll give cash-this way they can put it towards immediate items. If the family is doing ok, I give the bond so that the baby can have it later in life.

You're right, One Share was a great keepsake but the stock value isn't always very good. I didn't mind the price because I knew it would be a valued and loved gift. Also, I've had things custom framed and matted before and know that it can get costly. It can be a nice option for some but it isn't for everyone.Welcome New Vendors
