Does any one aproximately what a chuppah goes for? I went to one florist so far and he told me it was a littel over $700. It sounds liek a lot of money but then again I have no idea what they go for. Also, I told him I didnt want any flowers on it.

Re: Chuppah Prices
Mine will cost close to that if not more. There will be minimal flowers - more greenery than anything else. It is just what it is. My chuppah is suspended so there are no poles - just the mandatory covering.

Re: Chuppah Prices
Is it also possible to rent one from a place like zion lion? it seems like that might be cheaper, and then just put a few flowers on it. Can you show a picture of the typeof thing that's $700? I'm just curious. Is it all flowers?

You use a hand help one -- my father had polls and a prayer shall, so it was free. I think the polls only cost 100 or so.

I was thinking of that. Seeing if we could borrow FH's grandfather's tallit, or if I buy FH a new one as a wedding gift, suspending it from poles...but I don't really want people to have to hold it. I'd have to fid a way to anchor it to the ground

Great idea. I am buying Ed a tallit for a wedding gift from ajudaica.com or judaicadirect.com. They are the same company. After going to shul and seeing him in the one he wore for his Bar Mitzvah, I saw that he outgrew it slightly. He is now 6 ft tall. We will save his tallit for our son (should we have one) to give. My sister ordered one for her husband there and they were NOT expensive.

MrsWask and I both rented a chuppah from Yussel's in Merrick for $125, I think. It was a handheld one, but VERY beautiful.

Re: Chuppah Prices
As far as chuppahs being expensive, true they can be but this is the ONE aspect of a Jewish wedding that is an absolute must have mandatory thing. Though it is used for a half hour TOPS, it is worth it for me to have and spend money on.

Re: Chuppah Prices
A Chuppah is a canopy that Jewish brides and grooms (and officiants and parents) stand under during the Jewish wedding ceremony.
It symbolizes the home the couple is starting together.

I should know that... I do have a Jewish heritage. My mom converted to Christianity when I was 4. She calls herself a Jew for Jesus now!
