I know my wedding is a ways off but I was wondering when the best time to start looking at the church and reception hall. I was told about a year in advance but I want my wedding on Memorial Day weekend, a Saturday night. How quickly do you think that weekend gets booked?

You can go and book now if you want...it gives you plenty of time to plan your wedding...but if you wanted to wait...I think you'll be fine...if you still unsure about the availabilty of the day...call the hall(s) your interested in and find out how quickly that day books up...
As far the church goes...I know my church won't book that far in advance...they haven't even opened the 2006 book yet...it opens in February...but again I'd call your church to find out...

The sooner the better. If you book now you get 2005 prices, since they go up every year. I booked my Memorial Day weekend wedding (on a Friday though) a few months ago but I got lucky because there was a cancellation - every place we looked was booked already.
As far as the church goes, as long as you have everything needed (documents, sacraments, etc) they like that you contact them with 6 months or more. They also like that you book them first and then book your hall (set your date) based on their availability.

Thanks! Luckily for me this church was the one where I had all my sacrements! :) I haven't booked nor looked at a hall yet. Hopefully they have the availibility.

It's up to you...if you want to make sure you have that date you can start now just to put your mind at ease. Since you have time, I would book the hall first then the church in a year or so (eventhough the church does like you to book them first.) Good luck!

Well, I went to my church and they said it was no problem and that all I would have to do is meet with the priest with my fh. I feel like there's so much to do that I don't know how some people put together weddings in a few months!
