This is going to sound really dumb but neither FM or myself is very religious anymore. We thought we would be getting married @ the RH but the one I really want doesn't have anymore weddings left for that day.
Here is the question. Do you need to be a member of a church to get married there? FH is catholic & I am Lutheran. If you do need to be a member does anyone know of anywhere else we could get married.
Thanks

Re: Church ??
Neither FH nor I are members of the church where we are getting married (it is my Grandma's church). I think it would probably help if you knew someone who was a member. When we went, they were a bit hesitant about letting us marry there because we weren't parishioners, but I milked them by telling them it had been my dream to get married in my Grandma's church since I was a little girl. In reality, my Grandma moved there when I was about 15, but it is a pretty church and near a beach which was important to me.
If you can't do that, maybe there's a park or something you could do an outdoor ceremony in?

Re: Church ??
It depends on the church. At my church, I'm a member and FH is not. Also to get married at my church, I don't think both people have to be Catholic.

Re: Church ??
I think it really depends on the church itself. The church we originally wanted to get married in required us to be active parishioners. But my church (that I was baptized in) is letting us get married there even though we're not active and FH is not catholic (I am). So I'm still a member, but not really an active, practicing member.

Re: Church ??
Like the other girls said it depends on the church. I believe Lutheran/Episcoalian churches are more flexible than Roman Catholic churches. The church I am getting married at either yourself or parents need to be members.

Re: Church ??
I am a parishoner at the church where i am getting married, it's the church that my family has been going to since i'm 2. a friend of the family told me that my church is one of the few churches in the RVC diocese that allows non parishoners to get married.

This actually isn't necessarily true. We wanted to get married at the Cathedral of Incarnation in Garden City (the Episcopalian cathedral). FH is Episcopal and his church is the Cathedral's smaller church. However, his family has been attending church there for the past 5 years or so. In addition, FMIL's good friend is the wedding coordinator. FIL's checked for us to see if we could get married there, and they wouldn't let us unless we became active parishioners. We live in Massapequa and the Cathedral is in Garden City. We were not going to start driving out to Garden City every Sunday just to go to mass. It would've been different if they said to go to any Episcopal church for mass, but no, it had to be the Cathedral. That's when we changed our minds and decided to go with my (Catholic) church.

Re: Church ??
Yup this one is TOTALLLY church dependent.
My church won't marry you unless both of you are members -- it doesn't really matter about ur parents relatives and whatnot. .
But you might want to look for nondenominational chapels or churches -- like Riverside Church which allows anyone to use their church for a marriage service. . . If the churches around won't let u use their space.

No you don't need to be a member, but just keep in mind that they usually charge more for non-parishoners, at least my church does.
Also, keep in mind you are getting married on a Sunday. The times that may be available to marry may be very limited. I know my church on Sundays only allows weddings to begin no earlier than 3 pm and they must finish by 5 pm.
The best thing is to talk with a few churches. Some churches are a bit more lenient than others. So your best bet is to ask around.
