Church...

Is it possible to get married in a church that you don't belong to? Both FH and my church's are really outdated...

it depends on the church and their rules!

I'm getting married at St. Patrick's in Bay Shore. They allow people who are not members to get married there, but they charge more...or the 'suggested donation' is more!

Some churches allow it, other's don't. Some churches will allow you to pay a fee for the church, while other's will tell you that you need to be an active member. It really depends on the church.

Most churches let you get married there if you dont belong, they just ask more $$

I think you need to know someone in the parish that you want to get married at. . . . . . my friend did this - I'll email her and get back to you!

We're getting married at a Church we don't belong to. He seemed hesitant and asked for a letter of release from our local parish. The deacon at our local parish was extremely nice and called him up to settle it between them. We have an appt at the Church in two weeks, so it looks like its moving right along.

It definitely depends on the church. I know a girl who wanted to get married at the Church she received all her sacraments in. She moved away just a few years ago. She asked and they denied her. Just ask!

Not necessarily because we don't know anyone at the one that we choose to get married at and we don't belong to that church. I think it basically just depends on the church itself and what their own rules are.

If its a Catholic Church, most likely they will require either you or your parents to be parishioners of the church. It can be FH's parents as well.

Re: Church...

it really depends the church...and the reason...

we were looking for churches in LI for convenience purposes. one church i LOVED...but they would not take non-parishioners b/c they gave first priority to the parishioners.....another church told me in person it would be okay but we should talk to them, and the priest never called me back....finally the church we are getting married at welcomed us and didnt have a problem that we were non-parishioners

it really depends the church and the priest

call and talk to them

GL!

Well my FSIL is a member of infant jesus...I'm just scared to go there and have them deny me because then I will not have a CLUE where to go or what to do! I'm so nervous about this part!
