I am not a religious person. Haven't even made confirmation or communion. Never thought I'd get married in a church, ever!
FH is not super-religious, but very spiritual. He seems pretty adamant that we get married in a church, specifically, Infant Jesus RC Church in Port Jeff. I am not one for the overblown, gothic RC churches. If I were to get married in a church, I'd prefer a nondenominational or all-souls type church. I don't think I want a really traditional RC ceremony with the wine, blessings, etc. I'd perfer a one-room chapel with a nondenominational officiant.
So....Do I pick this battle with FH or let it go? I mean, if it really means that much to him I will do it, but it is sorta going against my own spiritual beliefs.

Re: Church Ceremonies
Talk it out! If hes more spritual than religious, you can put together a great ceremony that incorporates this without using a catholic church! I think if you were to begin looking up officiants with him, hed see that he didnt need the over the top church! Good luck!!

Re: Church Ceremonies
well if you are strong about not getting married in a catholic church then suggest a non denominational one...but if you do get married in a catholic church, they'll test you on different things that went on in the catholic church. My friend had to be tested and he was pissed at his wife for it. But the ceremony was beautiful I'll admit! So before you talk to him, you might want to bring it up that you might have to be quizzed and different things like that. He may change his mind!

Re: Church Ceremonies
I think it depends on how adament he is about it... If it is really important to him i say let him have the church because we usually get what we want when it comes to wedding planning and its not like you are completely strongly against a church ceremony

I would talk it out with him and try to make some type of compromise

Re: Church Ceremonies
It's actually really easy to solve this... I'm almost 100% sure you need to have made all of your sacriments in order to get married in a Catholic church. I know that's what my church does. FH comes from a different church and I'm pretty sure he's going to have to submit some kind of proof that he was baptized, made his communion etc. So you may not be able to get married in that church anyway.

Re: Church Ceremonies
I understand how you feel about him being spiritual and you not feeling the same way. I'm in the same situation I'm really religious/spiritual..and I want to get married in my church. FH agreed. He's not super religious nor has he grown up in church I was BORN in church and it means a lot to me. And he has to take classes and go to different counselings and stuff to get married at my church and he's willing.
In my opinion if it means that much to him I would do it that's just my opinion because I know my FH is just doing it to make me happy and he knows how much it means to me.
