Church dilemma - x post

Ok this could get long – feel free to skip.

When we booked our reception hall, we were originally going to have the ceremony there too. I had a few questions about getting married there vs a church, so I asked a woman I work with used to be a nun.

She asked us why we weren’t getting married in a church and I didn’t want her to think I was a bad Catholic so I just said that my church was booked that day. She said if we wanted to maybe she could pull some strings at the church she works at (near our reception site) and we could get married there.

Long story short – FH decided he wanted to get married in a church, so we booked my church first. After thinking about it for a while, we realized it was really far away for everyone, so I asked the woman I work with if she could check into her church. She came back and told me it was fine, but that we’d need to get a letter from my church saying it was ok to get married somewhere else (since she still thought our church was booked that day).

Soooo now I don’t know what to do. I’m afraid to ask my church for a letter bc they’re going to be like “Ummm I thought you were getting married here?” But I would much rather get married at the other church bc it’s so much more convenient.

AHHH THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULDN’T LIE!!!! Even though I didn’t do anything intentionally. So dumb.

maybe tell your church that you would love to get married there BUT it is far, or can you just say that you will go to fh's parish, or if its his say youre going to get married at yours.

I would explain to them that you realized the Church is too far between the reception hall and Church and you wanted to have them close together!!!

this is why you're supposed to book your church BEFORE you book a reception hall. i may get flamed for this, but honestly, the church is more important than the reception, and that should have been planned first.

i think you need to stick with the church you booked for several reasons. one, although it may be far from the reception, if it's your home church, that will be more meanginful than just some church that happens to be a little closer to the hall.

Also, it is not fair for you to put your friend, the nun, in an awkward position and to essentially have her lie....that's not fair.

the Church will not be too happy having to change your date and this other church that your friend may have a connection with, may not even have your date available.
