Okay so I just think its funny that the call it a donation...... We got a letter in the mail awhile back saying that the 'DONATION' amount has increased.......
What happens if we say we cant afford to pay the increased 'donation' amount? We can but isnt a Donation an amount that you decide on your own to give?
Know what I mean?

Re: Church 'Donation'
You are aboslutely correct. I just don't understand why they call it a donation. It's a fee, not a donation. I hope mine doesn't go up. We have to pay $400

Re: Church 'Donation'
It is a donation and you do get a tax break on it - just keep your 'receipt'...it's a donation towards the church and not going into the pocket (hopefully) of any individual or business.
A church call it a fee...but in the end since they're a non-profit organization...donation is more appropriate.

It is a donation (you can claim it on your taxes) and it is also a recommended amount. If you could not afford to pay it and you tell them of your financial hardship (which may be hard to do if you're doing a $$$ reception after your ceremony) they should be able to bring down the price.
I always say that the reception is nice - great to party and celebrate - but the ceremony IS the most important part of the day. A few hundred dollars to the church that is marrying you is well worth it - in my opinion.

Re: Church 'Donation'
because people will then give like $50 and unfortunately the church can not even turn on a light for that much money. To get ready for your wedding the floors need to be vaccumed, washed, things cleaned and set up, music people come in... all these things take money not only for the day of but to up keep. People think nothing of paying thousands of $ for music, flowers, etc but when it comes to the church.... I'm sure if any parish member went to the clergy if they couldn't truly afford it they would make an except, but when you have a wedding costing over $1000 - $50000 people can afford it.
