Church Donation Question

Church Donation Question

I need to quickly ask a question. I know there was a similar one that was out there about the precana, but this is different.

Does your church consider the fee to get married a fee or a donation? My church said it was a fee & doesn't even give you a receipt (they said it is not a donation & not tax deductible). Now I never heard of another church doing it this way, so I was just curious. What does your church handle the donation vs fee for he wedding?

Re: Church Donation Question

On another note, what will eventually be funny to me.

I got the wedding certificate back from the church (the church one not the state or town one) has my husband marrying HIS FATHER. Yup you heard me right instead of my name it has his fathers name. Not the kind of union I was looking for..lol

Ugh. Now I have to go back & make sure that it is corrected in every record they keep. & I am soo drained after the honeymoon & unpacking & getting settled

We're being charged a fee...that's how it's worded on the documentation we filled out. Because they call it a fee we considered that we'd not be able to use it for tax deduction.

I'm not giving them an additional donation as there is a fee that we're paying them...mind you which I think is pretty expensive for a church.

We were never given documentation but after the fact the church said it was a fee not a donation, hence (like in your case not utilized as a donation toward the church). Just curious if this is a new thing that some churches are doing.
