For those of you getting married in a church, what kind of personal touches are you incorporating into the ceremony? I've been trying to think of creative ideas to personalize the ceremony that would be allowed, and so far I'm drawing a blank...

Well you have some latitude in terms of the music and readings. What's in the book are suggestions, you actually don't need to choose those generally.
We're doing an interfaith ceremony so we're incorporating a lot of different stuff.
Some things that are 'different'.:
- We're doing a unity candle which my priest does not normally do when both partners are Catholic. We might use an instrumental of 'Sabbath prayer' for this. You can also use a havdalah (braided) candle for this for the symbol of the 3 wicks with one flame. We're not doing the 3 wick candle, but we're going to use a quote from Jewish thought about how two people join to make one greater light reaching toward heaven.
- My wedding band is a family heirloom which was my grandmother's band. I'll also most likely be carrying her photo on my bo-k.
- We'll (hopefully) be wrapping ourselves in FFIL's tallit (he's deceased) in lieu of a huppah.
- I'm going to use the song 'Hail Mary, Gentle Woman' for the presentation to Mary instead of 'Ave Maria', Just personal preference and I really like the words 'teach us wisdom, teach us love'
-Incorporating the song version of the Prayer of St, Francis for the same reasons as above.
You can personalize it based on your readers or have a loved one sing one of the songs.
I know some of this does not apply if you're not interfaith, but maybe it can give you some ideas.

Wow, thanks! It sounds like you guys have come up with some awesome ideas for a beautiful interfaith ceremony!
I actually didn't realize that the readings in the book were only suggestions..I thought we had to pick one of those for each section and some of them aren't really fitting for us.
I love the Prayer of St. Francis - that's a great idea! I also love that you are honoring your grandmother and your FFIL during the ceremony.
Thanks for sharing :)

Your church might be strict about it, but generally they are suggestions, not requirements. Our priest told us to pick anything from the bible that we want.
