i really dont want organ music and a singer for my wedding. my dj said that he can set up a small system and he has done it before. i want to play canon in d and after the are married i want to play u2's beautiful day. the preist is giving me problems.. saying things like.... its the same as putting fake flowers on the altar....its a sacrament and the organ is nice... meanwhile the organ is 250 bucks and i dont want it. any advice? does your church allow this? my dj says he does it all the time... i am really not happy about this.

I feel that church's have strict rules and I can see my priest giving me the same problem. I think they only want what they want and thats it!

my church had strict rules about the music too...we had to have either classical or Christian music. But I was allowed to have the vocalist sing 'Grow Old With Me' because it repeatedly says 'God bless our love' in the lyrics, the pastor was ok with that luckily.

i think not having an organ is fine & i find it strange that he's saying you have to have one...but i DO know that a lot of churches don't allow secular(aka non-religious; ie:U2 songs) played which is somewhat understandable i guess??? luckily my church didn't give me issues about any of the music...but maybe u can compromise & meet somewhere in the middle... what about asking if he'll let you use non-organ music as long as u won't use secular songs??

Sorry to burst your bubble, but in Catholic churches, they will not allow secular music for a Church Mass or ceremony... so U2's A Beautiful Day is Out.
The organist can EASILY play Canon in D, it's a very common request.
As a cantor, I have lots of suggestions... you can have beautiful church music without having to bring in a DJ. In my opinion, brining in a DJ does take away the sanctity of the event... it's too commercial... just my opinion.
Also, for Catholic weddings, if the music has lyrics, the song MUST mention God, Jesus or Mary.
Good luck...let me know if you need help!

Not sure what you meant here, but well..... shouldn't it be????? It is the SACRAMENT of Marriage after all.... not just a civil union.

Not sure either-but its a religious sacrament and should be treated that way.
Its seems more and more people want to do it 'their' way, its a sacrament for that reason-it should be done properly and include the music of that sacrament. Sorry, I love U2 beautiful day-but not for a religious ceremony. I dont think there is much that you can do to change that rule
