Now the one I have isn't good enough, and I need to go to Brooklyn in person to get it?
What if I lived in California?
Does anyone know anything about this?

Re: Church issued...
Do you mean a baptismal certificate? I didn't think the church issued birth certificates. I recently had to get a copy of my baptismal certificate through the parish I was baptized in.

Yes, are you referring to the baptismal certificate? If you can't go there to get it, contact the church rectory and have them mail it to you or the church you are getting married in.

Yes, that's what I meant...sorry.
I already have a copy of my original baptisimal certificate, but my brother had to go to the church to get a 'recent' one.
Has anyone had to do that?

Yes...I had to get a new one to reflect that I had received an annulment. (Usually it lists the dates of any sacraments you have received.) We got it through the rectory.

Yes, I had to do it. I called the rectory of the parish in which I was baptized and they mailed me a copy. For my church, the birth certificate (copy of) needed to be dated within 6 months of my wedding.

6 months, that's what I heard, but I'm hopeful they will mail it to me. Getting to Brooklyn during the week is no easy thing to do for me! I guess that's why God made daddies!

Yes, you need to get one dated within 6 months of the wedding date. That's the only way they know that you haven't been married in the church before. At least, that's what they told me.

That's so funny....how do they keep track of everyone? Is there a log of every Catholic and their history that ANY church can get the info?
I wonder........

I found this crazy too....but I don't have to get mine since I'm getting married in the same church that I have received every other sacrament in. But I do have to get FH's within 6 months before the wedding.
Crazy church!!!

The Church where you were baptized maintains all of your church records. So each time you make a sacrament, that church is SUPPOSED to receive something from the church where you were administered the sacrament, and the church where you were baptized makes a note of it on your record.
I think it also depends on who fills out the certificate. I mistakenly got mine sent to me (they did mail it) too early and had to get another one. The first copy had none of my other sacraments listed, then the second one only listed my first communion, although I had been confirmed too. Yeesh!

I certainly hope they mail it to you, as mine has to come from Ireland! Luckily all my sacraments were at the same Church, so it should be simple enough.

From what my church told me they need an original from the church because of some sort of raised seal. Like the seal on a birth certificate.

Re: Church issued...
the priest told us we need to get a copy of our birth cerfiticates with all of our sacraments listed on the back with the dates from the church. He said the plain baptismal certificate wasn't enough bc they need proof you received the other sacraments
