Re: Church or Halls??
I think if you want a specific church, get that first. You can always get a different hall, there are plenty of nice ones on Long Island, but if you belong to a church, you'll need to work around their schedule.

Re: Church or Halls??
I would reccommend getting the church first. We got the hall first because we were planning on getting married at the hall, but of course I changed my mind and then we had a hard time getting the church that we wanted. Everything worked out in the end, but I could have done without the added stress.

Re: Church or Halls??
I suggest a balance of both...first check w/ the church to see which days they have available- then call around to halls that you may want, to see what they have available...book the church date that appeals to you and halls seem to have (it can be a pain!) I know this sounds aweful too- but if you end up booking the hall before the church- don't tell the priest!

I'd say whichever you have your heart set on you should do first! If you love a certain hall, go with that. A certain church, do that first.

Re: Church or Halls??
it takes a bit of coordination, but I recommend doing this:
find the hall you want, and speak to your church. Ask the church what dates are available in about a 2 month range, and then go to the hall (ideally on the same weekend!!!) and ask them what dates are available. Then, coordinate them and book them at the same time...
we did that. We really only wanted one hall, and obviously wanted our parish to marry us. Worked out wonderfully! (a popular church likely will book up faster than the average hall...)

Re: Church or Halls??
Well I went to the hall first and just happened to luck out that the same date was open for my Church. I went in August for my hall and I wanted a Friday weddng in October and there were only 2 ates available for the room I wanted. Good luck!!!

I think if you have a specific church that you want make sure that they are available for the date or dates that you want and work from there. If they are available then move on to the hall. Make sure that they are available. Then start the process of the hall. We got lucky, we booked our hall in July 05 and our church this past July, I freaked FOR MONTHS about the church b/c I really wanted to get married at the church that I grew up in and was afraid that I would be able to. BUT the day was available so we really lucked out.
Good luck-either way as long as you do the booking within days of each other and make your mind up you should be ok

Re: Church or Halls??
depends if you have your heart set on a certain Church or a certain hall. We didn't really care too much about the Church so we looked at halls first. We fell in love with Marina del Rey and even though we went over a year early, Sept. 8th was the only Sat. in Sept or Oct that was available so we took it! Luckily my church was available that day too!

Re: Church or Halls??
I first booked my hall and then we booked our church , I know that many churches would rather you book the church first , but I was engaged in April and was booking it for this summer , so theer werent many dates available , I also booked our hall 5 days after we were engaged LOL soo I would suggest doing a balance of both also

Re: Church or Halls??
From my experience def the church. But I know some wont book until a certain amount of months before the wedding. I made the mistake of booking my hall first and have had alot of issues with my church. I have 3 months to go and I went a picked another church and cancelled mine.

Church first for me then hall then I coulnd't get the date I wanted in my hall so I changed my wedding date at the church so I could get my hall..... ok that sounds confusing :)
