But which do you book first, the church or reception hall??

i'd check out a few RH and get some dates in mind, call up your church and see if the dates match..

The church always urges you book them first, because in their mind, the 'church wedding' should be priority. The church totally frowns on it if you do it the other way around. Well..I made the booboo of booking RH before church...and it didn't work out so I had to go to another church. Luckily I found one willing to take me!! Definitely call around, check availability at RH's, then quickly book a date at your church and then the hall. Good luck!!!

We checked the church first because that is where I wanted to get married...I also had 2 years though so I knew most RH halls would not be taken yet.

Kind of at the same time....I know if you get married in a Catholic church they will ask you point blank if you have booked a RH yet and why you want a specific date...WE had our RH on hold and talked to the church the same week

Thanks for all the help!! The wedding is not for 2 years so I guess you are right, I will have plenty of time to find a RH I want.....I just want to make sure I get married in my church, that is the one thing I want.

Depends, if your church is very popular and they get booked fast then just call to see if they have the date you want available, thats if you have your heart set on getting married ONLY there...THere have been some instances where brides booked the RH and then their wedding date wasn't available at the church...But most people book the RH first, I did...ANd this is the first time i hear about the church getting mad if you dont book them first, ours didn't even ask at all.

I went to the RH first and checked what dates were open for the month I was interested in and then I went to the church and booked and then went back to RH and put a deposit for the same day. It was a lot of back and forth but worth it. HTH

OK, that sounds like a good plan!! Its worth all the work because I want to have everything I want, no matter what it takes lol

i would book the RH first because tat seems to go fast depending on where you want it to take place.Then also settle what time of year you want to have this wedding and then the church. JMO

church...but we were dealing with a time constraint for our rh..we did not want to lose it and it was taking a while to get an apptmt with my church...I do know my church is available that day..but we still have yet to meet with them..I am so hoping that it will still be available...

From the church's point of view, you're supposed to book the church first b/c that's what the day is all about.
In the real world, RHs book up quickly and you don't want to miss out on the place you want, so what we did was go and scout out places that had one or two dates that we were thinking about and then went to the church and booked the church.
In our case, my first choice date didn't work for the church, so if we had booked the RH before checking with the church we would have been in a pickle.
The day we did book the church we went straight to the Watermill and booked it.

We spoke to the church and the hall at the same time. We matched up the dates / times and then booked the dates.
Be really careful with the church times.... you likely don't expect it, but they can really book quickly! Ours was already filling up its calendar 14 months prior to the date.......

church 1st! to make sure they have ur date cause if you book ur RH and then ur church and ur church doesnt have ur date ur kinda screwed. thats what i was told. JMO! Hope i helped.
