To make a long story short, FH & I don't know if we can get married in church anymore. He was supposed to start classes for his Communion and Confirmation this month, but we found out that the person who does the classes is out sick until January- so there is no way he will have those sacraments by our wedding day in May...To make matters even worse, when he called the rectory today (to register for the classes-that's how we found out the person is out sick) the lady who he spoke to couldn't even find our file

Can you maybe have your FH take the classes in another church?? They should be able to accommodate you since their person is out sick!

I was told by chruch that one of you DO NOT have to have your scarments to get married in the chruch it didnt make sense to me but I was taking one of the classe one of the other men in their was talking it for his upcoming wedding the nun said you dont have to get married in the chruch! I would call the chruch if you are member if the chruch they may marry you!

ITA...FH hasn't made his confirmation but its no issue for us to get married at church

He doesn't have to make his confirmation (not sure though if communiion is required. It may very well just be baptism...). I would call another nearby parish and ask.

Thanks ladies...I'm gonna call them back tomorrow and see if he can take the classes elsewhere. I know he asked if he had to do both Communion & Confirmation to get married there and they said yes...

maybe try calling them and ask you to refer you somewhere else? if they contact another church you should be good and it should be much easier than trying on your own

stacey he can take it at anopther church!!! my original church didnt work with my fh to make his confirmation altho we were told he MUST do it for us to be married. we worked with another church and now we are getting married at that one. dont worry ive been there

Ughhhh the church is so incompetent sometimes!!! I have found that the rudest and most unhelpful people work there. I hope things work out for you

I didn't make my confirmation and the deacon said it wasn't a problem. Fh has all of his sacraments and he said it's fine.
this is the ONLY thing that I didn't have a problem with at my church.

we had this conversation probably about a year ago. every church is different. they each seem to make up their own rules. i had to deal with this last year & i can't even tell you how many churches i called & some of the rude comments i was told.
i have received all my sacraments & the only sacrament FH is missing is confirmation. i was able to find a priest who just wanted to hear from FH that he would baptize his children.
my advice to you is: 1. call up every church you can and see if you find someone nice.
2. have your FH right a letter to your church, explaining the circumstances. he was already for the classes but the person is no longer holding them. have him add in that he will baptize any future children. not sure if it will work but its worth a shot.
