I am going to be making the ceremony programs for the church and I have pretty much hit a brickwall. My father passed away two years ago this coming August. I wrote up a mock program and for 'parents of the bride' I listed my mom and my dad. My mother said shes not sure if I should write it like that because it implies that he is living. I cannot bring myself to write 'the late ____ _____' and I am not leaving his name off altogether because he is my father regardless of whether he is living or not. Anybody have any suggestions of how I can do this?

Re: Church Program Question
I agree with you. Even though he's deceased, he is still your father. I would just write it that way on the program.

The way I originally had it right? See, my mother seems to think people are going to expect to see him walking down the aisle. My thoughts are that everyone at the wedding knows that he passed away.

Re: Church Program Question
Some people have put a Memory section on the program and write either a small poem or a small note to your dad.
Good Luck!

Thanks. I am thinking of doing that, kinda like explaining the memorial candle lighting that we are doing.

Re: Church Program Question
My father passed away in '05. It is proper to refer to him as the late. The officiant is doing a general memory candle. She thinks that it will be too personal and upsetting if you don't generalize. He is still your father and should be on there, but IMO I think it may be confusing to some people that don't know the situation, esp FH's family. It may lead to questions as to why isn't he here-etc...

Re: Church Program Question
I guess I see where your mom is coming from. If you can, I'd write a special memorial section for him and list 'Father of the Bride' in that section.

Re: Church Program Question
For DH's mother we did not list as part of the wedding party... so it was Parents of the Bride and Father of the Groom.
HOWEVER, we did have her in the program twice. We did an 'In Loving Memory' page where we listed family ad friends that we were remembering on our day but they weren't here to be with us. she was at the top of the list.
we also during our Mass, mentioned her name during the Prayer of the Faithful when we pray for the dead and I also left flowers at Mary's altar and in the program when that was listed, we put 'In Loving Memory of XXXXXXXX', mother of the groom.

Re: Church Program Question
Thank you ladies for your suggestions. I guess it is the 'proper' way to do by putting either 'the late...' or just putting mother of the bride and mentioning my dad elsewhere. Its just hard. Thanks for all the help
