Church Q

Church Q

Soo I was randomly perusing the materials our priest gave us a few months back and realized that it says we need to:

1. Call the Church of Baptism & get new copies of our baptism certificates and
2. Acquire a Freedom to Marry Form

Has anyone ever heard of this? I googled both (LOL!) and nothing helpful popped up so I am thinking if I just bring our baptism certificates that will be sufficient but thought I would ask you ladies first!

Thanks

Re: Church Q

no idea what a freedom to marry form is...I just know we need a marriage license from the state.

The baptismal certificates you can request from your parish where you were each baptised. Most will mail it to you or you can go pick it up!

We need copies of baptism, communion and confirmation certificates and I think we need to do this 6months prior.

I think the freedom to marry form is if you're getting married outside of both you and your FH's respective parishes, so you just need to obtain a form granting permission from one of your parishes to marry.

not sure what the freedom thing is- but we had to get our baptism certs from the church (they need that one because on the back it states communion and confirmatio dates)

Yes our priest told us the same thing.

1. If you're not getting married in the same church you were baptized/communion/confirmation, they require a certificate from your church. It pretty much just confirms that you've had all your sacraments and that you've never been married before.

2. A freedom to marry is a letter from the church you received your sacraments in to give the ok in a sense to get married at this other church. It's out of respect from what I understand.

You have to call the parishes where you were both baptized and ask for a new baptismal certificate they will send them to you or you can pick them up in a few days... you can't just give them the originals b/c they will take them plus the new ones will have your communion and confirmation info on them as well.

Re: Church Q

I think we signed this when we met with the priest to book the church -- i think it was after he asked us a few q's about if we were catholic, if we were ever married and if we are getting married out of our free will and were not being forced to get married -- i'd call them about that one if you didn't answer any of the q's with the priest.

Re: Church Q

For the baptism certificate, for some reason the church does not accept the original. Within 6 months of your wedding date you call the parish where you were baptized and ask for a copy, that is the one the priest needs.

Our priest gave us the freedom to marry sheets as well, it is just a form that you need to have a family member or friend sign just to declare that you are not being forced into marriage, and are doing it in free will. Our priest gave us all of the necessary forms, if you don't have them you should go back and ask for them.
