so, FH and are are changing our church which we have our reasons for....but anyways....while calling the new church we would like to get married at I spoke with the father there. He said no problem about the switch, all we need to do is get the papers I filled out at my church that is booked now and bring them to him. He said he not guarenteeing the date until FH and I sit down with him and do the official date setup. After I got off the phone with the father, FH said to me..'what papers..?? you mean like a letter? Im like no...father said papers we filled out??!
What do you suppose he is expecting me to bring to him?? All the paperwork we filled out was to become a member there....and the pre marriage survery where FH and I had to answer questions seperatly in 2 different rooms....are you sure you are willing to marry your partner blah blah blah...
what do you girls think??
Also, how do I tell the church i am booked with now that I am choosing to not get married there and we are choosing another church without them being offended?

Re: church question
I'm assuming by paperwork they mean your baptismal certificates and proof of pre-cana. Do you both belong to the church you were originally going to get married in? If so, they already had that paperwork and you'd need to get it brand new for the new church. I'd definitely ask the priest at the new church to clarify. Some even require a letter from your parish stating that you're in good standing with the church and it's okay for you to get married elsewhere.

Re: church question
i would just ask for copies of everything you filled out and tell them something like you moved to a closer church or your childhood father wants to marry you and he can only do it at that church or something??

I know how you feel. I'm always more nervous with the church than any other vendors! Don't know why. I'd just make up some excuse for it, it's closer to your venue, it's your grandmother's church, something to that effect.
I don't really remember filling out much paperwork either. All I remember is filling out my name, address, phone number and giving that to them.

Re: church question
when we met with the deacon at our church we filled out paperwork with our addresses, information on if we went to church and where we received our other sacraments and stuff...

Re: church question
Honestly, when we switched churches we didn't tell mine that we had booked elsewhere. When we were about to do that thing where FH leaves the room so you can answer questions, FH looks at me and says, so do you want to do it the same as last time? I gave him the look of death and the priest said to me when he left, 'did you do this before?' I said, 'No, I don't know what he's talking about.' Oh man, so bad, I lied to the priest, but I really didn't want a problem. EEk! Anyway, they probably mean that paperwork, but I'd call and ask just to be sure. As far as cancelling the first church, I told them the truth. They wouldn't allow us to have a mass and I told the lady at the rectory that it was important to me and bothered me the more I thought about it.

Re: church question
its the paper work that you filled out when one of you had to leave the room and than you signed it. we had to get that too when we switched churches.
