OK, so here's the background. FH really wants to get married in a Catholic church. I am OK with this as long as we find a church we both like/feel comfortable in, because I was NOT raised in the church and still need to make my communion and confirmation in order to get married.
The two churches he wanted I did not like. One has a long waiting list and the other had a list of rules and regulations a mile long. So I called a church near my RH to see what I need to do in order to become a member and she told me I can't become a member since I don't live in the town (I live 15 minutes away). That infuriated me. I can't join whichever church I want? Picking a church is a personal experience for somone who was NOT brought up in the church and therfore doesn't HAVE a church to call home. I want it to be perfect for us. This just makes me sad, as it took me over a year to agree to get married in a church. I am willing to become an active church parishoner and I get doors slammed in my face
OK, so, FH and I want to get married in a RC church. If we're limited to where we live, there's 2 RC churches and both are scratched off the list. So now am I screwed? Was it just that one church that doesn't allow members if they don't live in the town?
Please help

Re: Church shopping today..and a vent!
I am getting married in a church that I am not a member in. I have to pay more than a member would. What if you do your confirmation and communion in your local church and then get married in one you really like.

Yeah, most churches have these crazy policies which is why I am getting a retired RC priest to marry us at the RH gazebo. I had my own issues with my RC church which is where I went to elementary school and give them money and they wouldnt accommodate me. Anyway, he can always get married to the RC church where he was baptized, is that one of the two you donate like?
You can also ask to speak with the Pastor of the church you like and explain to him that you want to become a member (get baptized and all that) and Im sure he will accommodate you. I have never heard of them turning away new members that don't already have parishes.

FH is a member of St. Anthony's of Padua in Rocky Point, and they have a huge list of rules in order to get married there. I was baptized RC, but never made my other sacraments. FH did. So we're looking for a church for the both of us, one where we will raise our children too.
