Last night my church told me the latest they'd marry us is 2:30.... we're not doing a mass and the cocktail hour begins at 7:30. It seems like too much of a break to me... anyone else waiting this long? Any ideas as to what I can do with the guests in the meantime?

That does seem like a big gap. Can you bump th CH up to maybe 6:30? How far are the church and RH?

That could work. Fox Hollow has the hotel right next door and a bunch of the guests are staying there. What time is that starting for you?

Re: church timing- help!
My mass is at 3:30 and my CH is at 8:00. HUGE gap. But I have a lot of out of town guests, and the mass is in Queens while the reception is on LI, so in between they'll be trying not to get lost on their way to the hotel, checking in and just relaxing until the shuttles are ready to take them to FH. I guess the local people will just go home in the meantime.
I was actually just in a wedding where the mass was at 2:30 and the CH was at 6:00, which sounds like a big gap, but the limo the BP was in broke down on the LIE and we were all late for the CH! So now I'm kind of glad we have extra time in between for ours.

I dont think thats a big gap because usually you go for pictures in between- you dont want to be rushing. You will probably thank them afterwards for doing it at that time. My church is at 3pm and CH at 7:30

I think it's opening up around 4:30 that way it'll be available once people start getting there.

That does seem like a big gap. But then, I'm in a wedding in two weeks where the church is at 1 and reception at 6 so I guess people do it.

I have a big gap too - I think it's pretty common b/c most churches won't marry people after 3 on a Saturday since they have 5:00 mass. My parents are hosting refreshments at their house while FH and I and the BP go take pictures. It works out better for us b/c we don't have to worry about rushing for pictures. I wouldn't worry about everyone else - I've been to a number of wedding where I went to the church in the afternoon and went home in between church and reception.

Re: church timing- help!
our ceremony starts at 2pm and teh cocktail starts at 7. I left all this time in between for myself so we dont have to rush from church to pictures to RH. Tough noogies- if it is too much of a gap for people then they dont need to come to church

Re: church timing- help!
We actually changed our church time because of this and moved our reception up 1/2 an hour. We're doing 6:00 church and 8:00 reception.

Re: church timing- help!
this is my exact time frame.....church at 2;30 and ch at 7:30
it sounds horrible but we may not do a full mass, might only do ceremony....only because of timing. im taking pics at westbury gardens plus its about 35 min from my hall on memorial day weekend ! so there could be traffic !
i would love to get to my hall at 6:30 but I think I'll prob be arriving closer to 7
