Church tomorrow... questions!

Church tomorrow... questions!

My fiance and I are meeting with a deacon tomorrow at a church we are very interested in for our ceremony... and he said the meeting will be about an hour. What do you think he may ask? I'm nervous!! Will he ask if we are sleeping together??

You will haveto fill out this questionaire separatly but it is all common knowledge stuff, ie address, telephone, are you entering this marriage freely, do you plan on having kids, stuff along those lines. Oh yeah and of course my fav. Are you two related? I nearly fainted when they asked me because I wanted to laugh in this guys face.

Everything is really easy. They will explain pre cana too.

ETA: I am assuming this is a Catholic Church. That is what I based this on.

Nicole already explained it well, and my priest asked us if we were like, mentally unstable or something... I forget the exact wording but something along the lines of: Do either of you have a mental illness?

He then went on to explain Pre Cana -- we have to meet with him again to ensure our date is still in THE BOOK (we booked before the 2010 book was available).

Okay great. I guess that for legal purposes they just want to make sure that it is valid and legitimate (ie. we are entering into the marriage freely, no mental illness, etc). That makes sense. He said it would take about an hour. Does that sound right??

Yeah, we took exactly an hour. FH is getting confirmed, so we had a lot of questions about that, and the timing, since we're getting married during lent.

mine took about an hour. our priest is new to the parish and he wanted to get to know us a little bit. it was nice and relaxing - he was really nice. i wouldnt be nervous! he will probably also give you info about ceremony music, dos and donts of the church, insurance forms for vendors. etc..

Ohh okay awesome. So it's nothing bad lol. He will probably also want to know why we don't want to get married in my parish.

Re: Church tomorrow... questions!

We just did this on Sunday. You'll probably get the Pre-Cana application, and then fill out some other paperwork. Then he'll take you each separately and ask you questions like the other girls said.

Are you entering into this marriage freely and willingly?
Have you ever had any type of mental illness or psychiatric treatment?
Will you be loyal and faithful to your intended other?

And of course my favorites:

Are you in any way related to your intended other?
Are there any physical impediments that would stop you from performing the 'marriage act?'

ETA: he won't ask if you're sleeping together. FH and I live together already, so we obviously both had the same address on the form. The priest noticed it and quickly said, 'oh ok, so you already live together' and just left it at that.

Yep I agree with what the other girls are saying. They also asked FH if he was a member of the clergy. We thought that was an interesting one. He scolded us a bit for living together but other than that it went smoothly.

Thanks so much for all your help!! I'm actually pretty excited because I've never been in this church before and I've heard it is beautiful inside. We are not getting married in my parish.
