So I called the church, Cure of Ars in Merrick, over a week ago and gave the receptionist all of our information. She told us that someone, can't remember if she said priest, would get back to us about meeting with a priest. I called again yesterday and was told that father Charles would be calling us soon. If this were a reception hall I'd probably call at least once a day but it's a church and I don't wan to be obnoxious but I want to book the church and be done. Any advice? Any other Cure brides that have had similar, or not, experiences? I need to get these big checks done so I can move onto the smaller, fun stuff!

Re: Church Woes
we called the church the first Monday that we were engaged. We wanted to make an appt. with them and the RH around the same time. So the receptionist said the deacon would call us back (which I don't want the deacon to marry us; long story, but she said we would have to talk to him and then let him know which priest we wanted). So we waited a week and no news back and we already had an appt. to see the hall the week after. FH called back at night instead of during the day and there was a really nice guy that took down our info and which priest we wanted so he left a message for that priest and he got back to us the next day.
BTW the deacon called us back over two months later to make an appt. to meet with us and at that point we already met with the priest, set our date, and we were already onto picking a florist.
Try calling at a different time of day or even go in person to make an appt.

Wow, that's crazy. I don't want to be a nag to the church but my cousin just reminded me it's our day and I need to stay proactive. We already booked the reception space (which I know is a no no and I will not mention to the priest) so we need a certain date. I'm home sick from work today and I'm at the dr now which is down the block from the church so maybe I'll stop in, even though I look like crap and am wearing sweats. Oh well, it's just to make an appointment.

I would go in person to make a date to meet with him. We went in to out church to make an appointment and he called us back the next day with appointments available.

Re: Church Woes
That was my church when I was a kid - my mom's a Eucharistic minister there now. Father Charles tends to be really busy because he apparently does a million different activities and fundraisers, plus makes cds with his sister - who's a nun!? can't make this stuff up. You'll probably have more luck going in person to get your day totally wrapped up, just to make sure. Otherwise, if you can't get in touch with them you can FM me your info and I can see if my mom can do anything? lol I feel like every time I call LI she's planning to go there or come back.

I ran in today after my doctor's appointment. Father Charles wasn't available but I left another message and they told me that he would give me a call in the next couple of days. My cousin is a Eucharistic minister there too and my goddaughter is an alter server. I guess we'll see. PS: I'm home from school until Thursday with strep.

SO I called my church in January and am still waiting... You have me nervous now. If I don't hear from them by Friday then we are going to pay them a visit Saturday morning! It's kinda rude it takes them so long!

Re: Church Woes
That's what I was thinking. I mean I know they're not a reception hall and they're holy and stuff, but it's the most important day of our life and we are trying to get things done. All we want to do is speak with someone. I'd say go ahead in and show your face. I'll do it again this weekend if we don't hear back. If I have to, I'll go to mass on Sunday and track him down afterwards.

Wow, that's crazy! Is it a really small parish? Mine's fairly large and I was able to speak with a Priest within a day of first calling. We were able to meet with him that weekend. It doesn't make sense to me. They do masses Saturday night and Sundays, so there should be someone there to at least call you back!

If you want, you could tell them that it's important to get back to you because your reception hall called you letting you know someone else wants your date.. Tell them you need to leave a deposit but that you wanted to make sure the church is available first.. HTH

Re: Church Woes
we booked our rh and then went to the church to find that the date was booked so we had to go back to the rh to change our date... if they church doesnt respond, I'd try walking into the rectory one afternoon. It can't hurt and if they aren't available they should make an appt while you are standing there!
