Churches?

Churches?

Hey girls!! I know this is going to sound awful, but I need help picking a church!!

Long story short - the church that I am affiliated with, refused to come give my grandfather his last rights, they said they didn't have anyone they could send?? I've never heard of this in my life!! On top of that, both my Grandmother and Grandfather went to that Church as children, and put all four of their children through Catholic School there. All of my siblings and all of my cousins have received our sacrements there as well, so I was REALLY hurt by this. Needless to say, I can't step foot in there again...

Problem is..how do you pick a Church?!?!

I live in Queens and my RH is in Mineola, perferably I'd like a church in Queens...so please let me know where everyone is getting married!!

I guess I want a Priest who has a little bit of fun with the ceremony, as I plan on having a full mass. I also would like to raise my kids in the church I get married at, so I want to feel welcomed there! And it would help if it was pretty (I know this sounds bad when it comes to a church, and of course its not important..but I don't know what else to look for!!)

Middle Village, not many people have heard of it..it's close to Forest Hills and Glendale, if that helps!

Re: Churches?

would you consider the flushing/bayside/whitestone area?

My church does ceremonies even if you aren't a parishioner and if you become a parishioner the fee is $100 less

theres also st. marys in LIC that is so gorgeous inside its in FMIL's old neighborhood and where she got married but she also now attends the church we're getting married in. When FH and I had to go to a memorial at St. Mary's we both were like OMG why arent we getting married here hahahaha. Its by astoria but a little further so not sure if you want it closer to you

I might consider it, I would like to stay closer, only because I would like to go to the church on a regular basis also.

Our Lady Queen of Martyr's is a Gorgeous hcurch. I live in Forest Hills and FH loves it there. If we were getting married in a catholic church we would've gone there!

Re: Churches?

I tried booking at Our lady queen of martyrs, but they told me that we needed to be a member of the parish for at least one year before I could even book the wedding and the fee is $1,000.
They wont let you get married unless you belong to the parish.

So I went for St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone park.

Re: Churches?

We converted from Catholicism to Episcopalian recently and I made FH do the calling around to find a church we both liked. He basically just called different churches in our area, talked to the priest, and got a gauge for who he felt comfortable with (both on a personal and spiritual level). Then we went to a mass, liked the minister, and decided that we would start going there. So far so good.
