My brother got married at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhassat. It's not specifically catholic but they'll marry anyone. They have a website, if you google it you'll find it. Like I said, it's not catholic but it is beautiful - it has not only the church but really pretty grounds that includes a stone building (w/ pretty archways), tons of grass, a pond w/ a water fountain, trees, stone steps - it's really nice.

I don't know about Catholic churches, but we had a difference and got married, with no problems and no mandatory pre-cana classes at a United methodist churches...
I was born and raised catholic, and really wanted the typical white church with center aisle.. I found it!! Good Luck!

Go to http://drvc.org/ and you can get email adresses for all of the churches on the island. I would just email them and ask. That is how i found precana when my church gave me a hard time

I don't know about the release thing, but if you were told this by a priest in a RC Church, chances are, this is the requirement which will be followed by all the churches in the Diocese-it is not a church by church thing, since the RC Church recognizes the sacraments of the GO Church.
Have you thought about marrying in the GO Church instead? If you marry in the GO church, the marriage will be considered valid by the RC Church. Good Luck.

right now we're getting married in the g.o. church, only b/c they wouldnt give me the ok to get married in the catholic church (im the greek one) & the catholic church wouldnt do it without that ok from my church...but we want to baptize our kids catholic & didnt know if it would be a problem when it comes time to do so if we're married in the g.o. faith....

At St. Patricks in Bay Shore they will marry you as long as you sign a paper saying that you will raise your children Catholic.

I'm not sure if you'll find a parish that will do this. My fiance and I are both Catholic and they still had him get a 'release' because he was from a different CATHOLIC parish. We thought that was odd, but did that anyway...
Would it be a problem to just get the release from the Greek Orth church??--OOPS, just read your other post...sorry that you're having to deal with this!!!!

I think that if you get married in the GO Church you will be expected to baptize and raise your children GO. Best bet is to talk with your priest. Good Luck!

I'm not even remotely religious and my FH is Protestant but does the church you get married in have anything to do with the kids? If you took up membership in a RC church after you were married would it even matter where the ceremony took place? From the little I know it shouldn't but Protestants aren't as strict with these things.
I would suggest you ask the RC church about this, if they don't have a problem then it shouldn't matter. CarlsBride said that sacrements from the GO chruch would be recognized-that may save you a lot of headaches and you could get married at the GO church.
