Circumcision ?

Circumcision ?

There are a lot of new mommies and mommies to be on the board and I was curious as to everyone's opinion on circumcision. I am torn on this issue and I don't know what I would do if the baby is a boy. Here in Ireland they don't perform routine circumcisions, so I have to ask the DR to perform one if the baby is a boy (if this is what we decide). DH is from Argentina and he is intact and we were leaning towards not having the circumcision done. I have done research and a lot of the reasons for circumcising a child have been disproved in recent years. The US is one of the few places where circumcisions are a routine procedure.

Is anyone else considering not circumcising their son, or have chosen not too?

TIA for all opinions.

Re: Circumcision ?

This has been a big topic for us. I always assumed it would be standard since we are in the US, however DH is from India where circumcision is not standard practice. After researching the topic, most likly we will not circumcise our baby if it is a boy, there just doesnt seem to be any clear cut benifit to doing it, except to fit in, but it seems that recently many people are choosing not to circumcise.

We went with the 'Whatever daddy is' plan. So my son is not.

We will not either...because of the reason that there is no medical reason to have it done.

DH is totally against it if we have a boy. I don't have a strong enough opinion for or against it to fight him on it, so we probably not do it we have a boy.

Thanks girls for your opinions. DH and I are 90% sure that we will opt against circumcision. It is nice to see that views are changing and more couples are opting for keeping their sons 'natural' so to speak. If there were medical reasons for circumcision I would be more inclined to go with it, but to do it just for cosemetic purposes seems wrong.

My husband is from England where it is not common practice either. He would prefer his son (if that is what we have) be like him. Therefore, we probably will not get it done. I think more people are opting out of it in the US also.

We had Andrew circumsized. That was our preference. I was all prepered for him to come back screaming his head off, but he was so peaceful and content, thankfully.

I agree with Irish Tracy. I think the boy shouldn't look different from daddy because it might cause issues for him. So, we are will not be circumcising our son. It really is not as big a deal healthwise nowadays.
