Civil ceremony stressing me out more than big event!! (BIG LONG VENT!)

You'd think that planning a civil ceremony would be less stressful than planning the main event...right? Wrong. I'm beginning to wish FH didn't want to do this so badly and that I didn't tell any of my family.

My brother's first reaction was 'I'm probably overthinking, but are you pregnant?'. No. I'm not. My sister and others were also questioning why we're doing it. I'm tired of explaining that this is what FH has always wanted and it's his wedding too, so we're compromising. It's also a way to ensure our marriage is legal since we're having a friend get ordained to do the wedding (we've looked into all the necessary paperwork, so I know it wouldn't be a problem). It's also a nice way for us to celebrate with immediate family before celebrating with 200 guests. There are a multitude of other reasons, but none of them should count. It should just be about what WE want.

You probably have a really traditional family. Im so sorry this is stressing you out. Honestly this is about what makes you happy and if doing this is what you want, then go for it. Also, I am going to city hall to get married a month before the wedding or maybe even sooner to avoid the whole big cost of having to hire someone to come and do the ceremony at my reception hall. Instead we are having my uncle whos a pastor do a simple ceremony and no one will ever know the difference!

They'll get over it. Hopefully the word will spread that you're NOT pregnant and getting a civil ceremony is just what the two of you want so you don't have to keep explaining to people.

By the way, everytime I look at your avatar I keep thinking your marrying John Lennon!! haha Very similar features, I dunno. My eyes are tricking me. haha. cool

That's so funny, especially since we're HUGE Beatles fans!! He wanted our wedding song to be 'Oh, Yoko!' by John Lennon, but we decided on 'I Will' off the White Album.

Seriously, though....do what you want. They are not the boss of you and like most family drama they will only talk about it until someone else does something else to shift the focus to them...and if your family is anything like mine, it shouldn't be long!
