I had a small civil ceremony but I always intended on having a 'big' wedding with a reception at some point. I even made my husband put it in the vows. Now a lot of people are making me feel guilty or greedy for wanting a wedding. They say I'm already married so I don't need a big wedding. I always wanted a big wedding with the gown, honeymoon etc. Do you think I'm being selfish?

Re: civil wedding/big wedding
not at ALL!!! it makes perfect sense that you want a big wedding and i know plenty of people who did (or are doing) the same thing!! please don't listen to anyone who says you are selfish for wanting a big wedding. if other people can do it, why can't you?? it should NOT matter that you're already married civilly...you still need to celebrate!!

Definitely not being selfish! If its what you always wanted, go ahead! You are doing it for you and your husband, not for them!

I'm gad to hear I'm not the only one doing this. When we got married, I was only 25 and we didn't have $$$ for a big wedding.

You shouldn't feel guilty..and I'm not sure why anyone would call you greedy
Do what makes you happy..forget about those people

No, do what you want! Would it be a church or more of a ceremony type before the BIG wedding reception?

Re: civil wedding/big wedding
yeah we specifically had a civil ceremony so we could get married by a rabbi later. My mom thinks I shouldn't have all the other parties that go along with the wedding (no bridal shower, no bachelorette party). Maybe people won't be put off that way? The thing is, I made the first wedding a surprise so people wouldn't buy us gifts, so we never got all that stuff like pots and pans.

As you start planning the wedding of your dreams, people will have a lot of things to say. Don't listen to ANY of it, it's your wedding, you do it EXACTLY how you want it!

You are not being selfish. My parents wanted me to have a 'big' wedding because they got married in their backyard with 8 people--they always wished they had a big wedding with all their family and friends!

i don't think there's any reason why you shouldn't have the other parties. you deserve them just as much as any other bride does!
