Claiming Delta Skymiles

For those of you have claimed skymiles to use for trips how easy/hard was it? What exactly was the process to get them? Should I use a travel agent to help me?

Reason for asking: We're starting to plan for our Honeymoon to Cabo San Lucas and I want to cash in on all the miles I have accumulated. I'm having a hard time with the Delta site to look at things - says it can only be done in the US. So obvioulsy I'm lost - can someone help?

Buy the tix yourself over the phone and then bring your itinerary to the travel agent to do the rest. That's what we do.

So if I call them they can help me use the miles towards my flight - right there and then? Maybe I'll give them a call to find out how many miles I need exactly for two round trip tickets to Mexico and then go from there.
