Cleaning and organizing strategies?

My apartment is completely out of control. I have taken a 4 day weekend to get it back together.

When you clean and organize- where do you start?

Tips for the slob, please!

Re: Cleaning and organizing strategies?

If you haven't worn it, used it, listened to it or done anything with it in the last year then say buh bye to it. Everything has a place and a home, if it is homeless then buh bye.
Should I come over to supervise

I could use a supervisor- like the clean sweep crew!

Re: Cleaning and organizing strategies?

FH and I are organizing nerds.

We have to be, our apt. is 350 sq.ft!

Do one area at a time.

I like to take EVERYTHING out of a closet/drawer/shelf, whatever

Dust it off.

And then begin putting back ONLY the things you use. Pick from the pile your favorites.

When the shelf/close/drawer is full. Stop. Asses what is left.

Most of it will be goodwill/garbadge.

Good Luck!

Re: Cleaning and organizing strategies?

See- this is my problem. I empty the closet or whatever, then get tired or bored and leave stuff EVERYWHERE!

Or I clean one room by movving all the stuff into another room. So one or two rooms look great, and the rest is a disaster!

Re: Cleaning and organizing strategies?

I cleaned out one closet last Saturday, hung the good ole hefty bag right next to it. Lets just say im making a donation to church! The bag is full. Im one of those 'but mom gave this to me, but sis gave this to me', if I dont wear it any longer, it had to go! I ended up with sooo many empty hangers I couldnt believe it! I dont know why I keep so much stuff!
I still have more than enough clothes too, so thats always a ++
Do one area at a time, and throw, throw, throw...OOH...a Paper shredder is a good thing to have too
