Clomid

Clomid

Are there any others that are TTC that are on Clomid? My doctor just started me on it and I don't know much about it.

Do you have any side effects?

I'm on 50 mg, to take cycle day 5-9. I started it last night.

I go back on May 9th to take my progesterone levels.

Would love to hear from others that have experience with Clomid.

THANKS!

Re: Clomid

Hey Stef!
This was my second month on Clomid. The first month I took 50mg cd5-9 but I only produced one follicle so he upped it this month to 100mg. This month I had 2 mature follicles and a few smaller ones.
I did have some side effects. Nothing too bad. Just some headaches, nightsweats, and very emotional ( I was crying at everything!!).
I have heard of people having no s/e at all, and some having all the things I have had worse plus blurred vision. I think thats very rare though. I took mine at night too.

Re: Clomid

Hey Lisa,

I've been reading about the whole follicle thing.
How did you find out you produced the follicles? Did they do an ultrasound?
LisaW Posted:

Re: Clomid

Yes, they do a internal u/s to check your follies.
A mature follie should be between 20mm and 30mm.

Edited b/c I couldn't use the work v.a.g.i.n.a.l...lol

Re: Clomid

Clomid is a fertility drug used to stimulate your ovaries. It helps women who don't ovulate or don't have a strong ovulation, and/or to produce more follicles.

Re: Clomid

If you have not read the Taking Control of Your Fertility you should. It discusses Clomid in detail. I know it can be a huge help for women, but there are things to consider. Charting will help you SOOOO much. You should get the book.

Thanks Lisa, I appreciate that. I am still awaiting my book.

Re: Clomid

I have TCOYF and read about the Clomid in there but it didn't really tell me what I was looking for.

But anyhow -- I do chart and take my temps and that is what helped me get some action from the doctor. If I didn't have that history of information she probably would have told me to come back in a few months. Luckily she is pretty proactive.

I did hear about hot flashes being a s/e. Oh boy! We'll see what happens.

Thanks again ladies for your information and sharing your experiences.

It's such a strange thing to go through.

I talked to my mom about her experience conceiving me and she too took Clomid and conceived with me the first month on it. So maybe the apple doens't fall too far from the tree?

Good luck Stef! My fingers and toes are crossed, and I'm hoping for all good things for you.

Re: Clomid

Red Cohash (in the health food stores) helps with hot flashes. My sister was on meds that gave her horrible hot flashes and this herb seemed to do the trick. Maybe you can take it to prevent them.

Stef- I'm sorry. I remember that we FMd about the book and charting. Sorry. I am glad your doctor is working so closely with you and being so proactive. So many doctors just don't listen.

Try some of the TTC sites. Many of those girls are on the same meds and have lots of experience with it.

Re: Clomid

It’s good to read some of the responses in this post. I have been going through anovulatory cycles for the past 6 months and my blood work came back normal, but since I am not ovulating and have not gotten a period in so much time, I am on a Rx for medroxyprogesterone (Provera). Hopefully that will bring my body back to a normal ovulating cycle, but the doc has been preparing me in case I need to take Clomid. From what I’ve read, while taking Clomid you should also take an addition hormone (estrogen?) to combat the dryness that may result. Good Luck. I read TCOYF awhile ago and it helped me figure out what was happening. I chart as well and haven’t have a spike in temps in a long time!!

Can I take anything besides fertility drugs to boost my chances of getting pregnant?

Expert: Sherman Silber, M.D., F.A.C.S [See Biography]

Question: Can I take anything besides fertility drugs to boost my chances of getting pregnant?
Sherman J. Silber: None of the so-called general health remedies you might see in your local health food store are going to have any real impact on your fertility. The most important thing you can do, other than take fertility drugs or get infertility treatment from a doctor, is reduce your overall stress level.

First, let me say how important it is to have an overall reproductive evaluation to rule out basic problems such as tubal blockage or poor sperm production. Diagnoses like that clearly require medical intervention if you're going to get pregnant. And in general, if you've been trying for a long time (a year or more) without success, you'll probably need some sort of treatment from a physician regardless of whether you have a specific, identifiable problem.

But if you're looking for general ways to improve your chances of getting pregnant, my best recommendation is not to time intercourse too precisely, because it can dramatically increase your stress and, ironically, inhibit ovulation. I recommend you do whatever you can to extract yourself from the hectic, sometimes crazy pace of modern life and make sure you have time for a quality relationship with your partner. This will do more to relieve stress and allow you to ovulate normally than any other 'natur

JennRenee thank you for your well wishes! I really appreciate them!

Michele31: I am so happy I changed doctors b/c you are right -- not all are so proactive. This doctor is so sweet and really wants to make it happen for us.

THANK YOU everyone. Luckily I haven't had any S/E yet. No hot flashes, but I've got three more pills to take

Re: Clomid

Ohhh another clomid user!
I am currently taking clomid. I started taking it in december and along with the first iui I got pregnant, unfortunatly I misscaried last month.
I had to wait till my next period to start again which I did a few weeks ago. Went for my 2nd set of IUI's last weekend and just waiting for the good or bad news.
I had 3 follicles this time.
I was on 100mg days 5-9
I had absolutly no side affects
Good luck

Re: Clomid

My doc hasn't talked about IUI at all. I think she just wants to see if the Clomid will stimulate my ovaries to ovulate sooner in my cycle and stronger. I guess I'll find out more when I go to have my progesterone checked next month.

JustJodi -- I'm sorry for your loss -- and I hope you are successful soon! Thank you for the info.
