I have two big, deep closets in my bedroom. once he moves in FH will obviously get one (sadly). the thing is they are deep with shelves up top but only one bar and there is no way I can fit all my work clothes and regular clothes in just one closet -- same goes for him, he has a whole WALL of closets at his house!
does anyone know where we can get some sort of closet organizer that we can put in ourselves - I love what the container store has but I can't spend that kind of money on custom closets.
ANY help or advice would be appreciated!!

the container store isnt bad in price actually its california closets that is expensive. My mom did all our closets and bought stuff from the container store. You buy the things yourself and do it yourself and you dont have to go crazy. I can show you what my mom did that worked out great.
I also will have this problem, when look at apartments and we see small closet space we say no. Fh is going to need his own closet and a huge one at that, thats why i also want 2 bedrooms bc ill need a closet in another room
the container store isnt exactly custom closets, its a bit different. You can buy shelves, plastic containers, or racks on your own

Def try Ikea. But you might have to just fold some of those clothes and forget about hanging them. Can you give him the hallway closet

really? I thought it was all custom... is it ELF closets or something like that? we haven't looked and this was supposed to be his winter project.
My closets are great in that they are deep also; so i just feel like we can do more bars and shelves to maximize. we did this in mine and my sisters room growing up.
Unfortunately i have a 2nd bedroom but it doesn't have a closet. so you can buy shelves and everything separate from the container store? i had no idea - I literally salivate when i see their custom closets. Are the only ones the one in the city?

the rods at the container store are $20-30 each. You can put a rod that is higher up and one that is lower to put skirts and pants.
most of the things are fairly inexpensive, such as $15, $30 around that range

the elfa is just 1 of their options, and thats if you want them custom made but most of their stuff is for you to buy yourself. Thats what my mom did, she bought rods and shelves. Her closet is very deep and was able to put a rod behind the front one and put a bunch of clothes behind that.
Here is the site, its pretty inexpensive, just dont do the elfa custom made closet hahaha
Maybe Ikea - have you seen the commerical with the couple getting ready for work - and the wife keeps asking for things all flustered - and the husband calmly hands her everything? Thats what I thought of!

i didn't even think about ikea... i was thinking more like home depot. maybe ikea would be a good place - I told him we could buy him an armoire from there and keep it in the other room but he didn't like that idea.

awesome. thanks so much! that's exactly what i was thinking too - two rods top and bottom, and just raising the shelves. maybe i'll do it myself the next time he goes away.

too funny! that would so be me... he has random things in my closet and it's driving me nuts. i'm like, at least pick one closet to put your stuff in for now.

Re: closet space and living together
i WAS JUST looking at the elfa custom closets. I cant believe how much they charge. My mom also did my dads closet and looks exactly like this but his is a dark wood instead
if you buy the supplies yourself, you can do this yourself and it will cost less than half of what they charge for them to do it for you

that's what i mean! I know, they are so expensive. I would love to break the wall down between the two closets and make one big closet... not sure if that would devalue it or not; I would think the opposite but i'd probably need board approval and all that.
i loooove those

it definitely helps to bring up the value, most ppl now want huge closets. Ask them, most are lenient about these type of things

I saw a few in Target as well. I was thinking about getting this one. It's called John Lewis home or something.
