Clothing Sizing Question & Age of Baby

I hope this comes out right...lol...

I was wondering the clothing sizing 0-3 mths, 3-6 mths, etc.....is it true to AGE most of the time?

How long did your baby wear 0-3 mth clothing? Until 3 mths...less? more?

And so on for 3-6 mths..6-9?

I know that all babies grow differntly I am just looking for an average here of what sizing was like for you.

Sometimes I see things I want to buy for our and I find myself saying will it fit when she can wear it (like summer dresses and skirts and what not).
She is 'expected' in Mid April so Im looking at the hot months of June-August where she can be anywhere from 3-4 months depending if she arrives early or late....do I buy the dress in 0-3 or 3-6? I am so confused...sorry for the 'some-what stupid' question!

TIA!

Re: Clothing Sizing Question & Age of Baby

The clothing definitely did NOT go by age in my case, LOL Andrew was just about out of his 0-3 month clothes by the time he was a month old. He wore 3-6 month clothes for a few months this summer, and in the fall was in 6-9 months by 6 months in age. Now he is 8 months old and is in 12-18 month sizes.

If your looking to buy your baby clothes for the summer, I would definitely get 3-6 months. That would be your safest bet.

Re: Clothing Sizing Question & Age of Baby

i would even mention it depends on how 'big' the family is too....my family is tall and all the babies in it (cousins, etc) always seem to be two-three sizes ahead....so consider the parents' sizes (lack of a better word, but i think you know what i mean!) too!

Re: Clothing Sizing Question & Age of Baby

Not a stupid question! But actually it really depends...
Depends on the size of the baby, when she comes, and when she experiences growth spurts.

I would save all the receipts and keep the tags on until you are ready to wash and wear it. Most stores will take back or at least give you store credit.

Aidan was born 8lb 8oz the end of May, big but defintely not the largest baby by any means.

He had plenty of room in his 0-3's when we brought him home. By the beginning of August he was in 3-6 months. I have to say up til this point he was true to size then I don't know what happened! 6-9 was practically nonexistant, now he is in just a few generously sized 12 months but almost completely wearing 18 months. He will be 8 months next week, but he is kinda on the tall side.

HTH

Oh yeah, during last summers sales I bought a bunch of 18 months summer clothes for him, I don't know if he'll even get to wear it!

One other thing, I really didn't dress him in too many shorts outifts last summer, it just never got that hot, to me, for a newborn. Or we'd be in and out of cold aircondtioining. So I did alot of those knit pants from the Gap / Old Navy with a onesie. Plus you should keep them covered from the sun since she won;t be able to use sunscreen.
I was even searching for a light zipper type sweatshirt for him for cool nights which was hard to find amidst all the summer stuff, so that I would get now.

Re: Clothing Sizing Question & Age of Baby

Both my DH and I are tall (6'1 and 5'7) but both our kids are pretty true to size for their age. Although now that Lukie is getting bigger, I notice some 3T stuff fits him better than 2T stuff. Mainly overalls and bodysuits.

But...it depends on the brand. I just got some hand me downs for Tara and a pair of 18m pants of one brand was a good 2 inches longer than the 24m of another brand.

ETA: Girls tend to be a little smaller than boys if that helps. Its not always the case but usually when I hear of kids wearing a 18m at 5 months old, its a boy. I think your daughter will most likely be fine in a 3-6m at that time. If your shopping for stuff, dont cut off the tags and hang onto receipts. Most places will take it back.

Sorry, but speaking from experience, don't go too crazy buying ahead until you can get a look at your child's growth chart. Thank goodness we never found out the sex, because I would have been so tempted to buy so many clothes for my little girl and it would have been a waste. My husband and I are both short (5 ' 5' and 5'7') and Gabriella was only 7 lb 3 oz (below average) and 20.75 inches (slightly above.) Well, with in the first two weeks, her growth shot off the charts and has continued to still at 9 months. She's well in to 12-18 months and I am not even sure how long they are going to last, to be quite honest.

From what I know, it really just depends. The other thing I found out (having an April baby, although I am in BuffalO) most of the really summery stuff, she never wore. I was always paranoid she was cold. I would recommend the 3-6 though...after all that rambling.

I also wouldn't buy too far ahead, b/c honestly, when people bring you gifts, it will be clothes. AND, you will probably have enough clothes to last you through 2 sizes. I know that between the shower and her birth, I didn't have to buy Emily ANY clothes until October/November. She was born in July and by Oct.-Nov. she was into 6-9 month clothes- and I also only had to buy a couple of things.

If you really love the dress, though, buy it in a couple of sizes and bring the one size back that doesn't fit.

imo i wouldn't buy clothes i got so many gifts, i would wait but gabriella was in 0-3 until a month and a half and is now in 3-6 and 6-9 in many things and she is going to be 4 months this week.. It is really hard to tell until you meet your little one
