Co-Op

Does anyone own a co-op in the forest hills/kew gardens area of queens?? If so how do you like the area...and if you commute into the city how is the commute?

I have never lived in FH but I love it there. I think KG is nice too. YOu can take the LIRR or Subway from FH, the commute is great.

I would use the Subway, you would save a lot of money that way. I don't think KG has a subway so you'd have to get to FH or be forced on the LIRR.

Parking is a major issue in both these towns if you own a car, especially Forest Hills. If you are a two-car family... it could be a nightmare. On street cleaning days... its next to impossible.

You can try to find a co-op that has on-site parking... but long waiting lists are common and expect to pay $150-200 a month per car for an indoor spot in a co-op building.

I avoided both these towns like the plague when I was looking for a co-op since I was moving from Sunnyside and that town has the same problems with parking. I was so sick of it.

I ended up moving to Oakland Gardens and I got a $50 parking spot within two months of living there.

On the other hand... commuting to Manhattan by Subway from Forest Hills or Kew Gardens is really simple and quick. Don't bother with the LIRR.

KG has the Union Turnpike Subway Station. And I think a couple of the south Jamacia subway stations along the E line are in walking distance of KG.

I almost moved to this area back in my single days. I love it! And there is a subway in Kew Gardens at 68-70 Sts. I know of many people who live in this area and love it. It's upscale and beautiful with great shopping and easy access to the city. I would take the subway too but it's always nice to have the LIRR as a back-up.
