Wondering if anyone has a similar dilemma - about 75% of our guests are OOT and we want to provide coach bus transport to enable people to take advantage of the open bar and not have to worry about driving etc., also because people are not familiar with the area. BUT, there is about 1.5-2 hours between church and cocktail hour.
It seems, however, that most coach bus services offer roundtrip service...and it might be substantially more expensive to do hotel-->church--->back to hotel/somewhere to kill time--->RH---->hotel.
Is it rude to just ask people to drive to the church and then go back to the hotel after since they have to kill some time, get the coach bus there, and take it to the RH? I'm just worried some people might end up not going to the actual 'wedding' and just wait around for the party.
Thoughts? I'd appreciate any insight, esp from anyone that might have a similar dilemma!

Re: Coach bus to Church AND RH?
I think it's fine to skip the bus to the church. They can drive themselves. Hopefully they aren't drinking at the church! They have to go back to the hotel anyway, so it's not like they're stranded somewhere.

Hi Welcome! I see ur new... Would u mind introducing urself?! We love new bridess
and To be honest... You cant 'ask people' to Go to your Ceremony... Guest will do what 'they want to do'... How far is the church to the hotel? If it is a two hour different, some poeple MAY miss the Ceremony.... If its not too far, Im sure they will come to Church & RH.

Re: Coach bus to Church AND RH?
I have a similar situation and originally had just expected my guests to figure out how to get to/from the hotel to Church & Reception. However, both of my venues are in Brooklyn and people are already asking about renting cars, which is absurd and crazy since they'll pay more in parking at the hotel than for the actual hotel room!
I was thinking of maybe calling car service companies that have big vans and having a couple of them reserved. I'm not sure yet because I don't know how many people are staying at the hotel yet.
Also, check with your Hall - maybe they can have car service provided at the end of the night (your guests would have to pay themselves)

I may be having the same issue except my church is in Manhattan. I don't think they would miss out on the church if they are from OOT.. What would they do just wait at the hotel??
I am giving it some time before I book this up for my guests. I want to see how many stay in the hotel vs. family friends vs. timeshares then go from there. My mom told me not to worry about transportation to the church and RH for now because she can organize with the guests at the hotel and they can all chip in.

Also going to wait on the head counts before I book. I'm not arranging transportation to the church..just between church and RH.

Re: Coach bus to Church AND RH?
Thanks for the welcome! I've been stalking the boards since I got engaged in November but haven't joined til now! Lots of the posts seem really helpful so I figured it was about time i joined. I'm getting married on 11/12/11. My reception is at the Stewart Manor CC. I'm very excited!
Good point about people doing what they want to do. Really have no control over that! And the hotel is only 3.5 miles from the church, so it's not like it will be hard to navigate even for out of towners...that's what GPS's are for. The RH is less than 2 miles from the hotel so everything's really close. Hopefully it will all work out!

I am just doing transportation to the RH. I don't think it is necessary for the curch. People can carpool.

I think usally you just arrange the transportation from the hotel. Unless they really go for the wine at church they can drive after the mass or ceremony

I think it's fine to skip the transpo to the church. As other ladies have said - the guests will find their own way there .
On another note - hello hall & month twin

Re: Coach bus to Church AND RH?
I have the same dilemma...I have a lot of guests from out of the country and I don't expect for them to rent cars...and they're not going to come all this way to skip the ceremony (which, is the most important part really)...so I'm going to book a bus from the hotel - church - hotel - RH. They can get their own way back after the reception (taxis, etc.) since we're having an after-party and people will be leaving at different times. I haven't gotten a price quote for this yet though!
